CBS dumps it in Detroit. Are the older demos in Tampa Bay why it is still here, or are there other reasons?

Clearly, moving the format to an inferior signal is just phase one of its elimination in TPA.

My prediction: Once CBS is able to muster away a major sports rights contract from Clear Channel, for its AM 1010, they will simulcast the sports format on 98.7 FM.

They have a well produced and fine sounding sports station in Baltimore. "The Fan" is local, live and broadcasts Oriole games.

CBS operates many "Fan" stations, mostly on FM. They even renamed their Charlotte station from "The Franchise" to "The Fan."

Has CBS trademarked this name, or what?

Yeah... you know I never really understood why Smooth Jazz is now considered this year's taboo format and please spare the standard arguments regarding demos, advertising, and the almighty dollar. We saw that with the oldies/classic hits in the last year or two and now that's all fine and dandy again. WSJT was doing fine with the live & local personalities it has had for over a decade. It went downhill when CBS started putting syndicated cr** on from LA that features personalities who are jazz artists and have no business being DJ's. Besides, KTWV Los Angeles, KYOT Phoenix, and KIFM San Diego (to name a few) do very well so we don't need to hear how it's bombing around the country.

CBS will most likely make 98.7 a Sports Hub, Fan, Animal (not here), Ticket, Jock, Cup or whatever until someone whines about how there's no audience for it and how expensive it is to operate. I understand the business aspect but quit cheapening it to the point where we notice it on the air.

Then there's the Tom Kent Show on Q-105 that really needs to be the Jack Miller Show again. If anything, can we have live and local show back w/o having to listen to commercials play over songs followed by 5 minutes of dead air. Now I know that's not TK's fault but has anyone listened to that show? But I digress, this is another issue for another post.

TK-TK-TK does get off some good one-liners occasionaly and certainly wins a personality contest hands down when up against the evening jocks on the Eagle and the Dove.

The Eagle, The Dove, The Albatross, The Do-do... Ughhhhhhh. True, not as rivetting at night (or most of the day) yet at least they're still 'New' after almost a decade. :D

Btw MMR, I notice you're on the Pgh board as much as you are here. Do you reside here or there currently? Did you obtain any airchecks of either WAMO before they went dead?

Just to keep it Tampa related, 3WS sounds so flat compared to Q-105 even under the Scott Walker regime. DVE is better than our 102.5, but not in drive times. The Dove is has better music while JAS has better personalities minus Tesh. Even after being gone WAMO is still better than 95.7 The Beat. KDKA and WPGH kill WFLA and the pea-shooters and they have no Schnitt (take that anyway you want..LOL!). Lastly WSJT is better than... wait WJJJ bit the dust years ago.

I am in Tampa most of the time. My mother lives in Pittsburgh and I was born and raised there. I have no airchecks of WAMO, sorry. I think Q105 is better than anything in Pittsburgh, even with being only live and local from 5:30Am to 7PM. I agree on WDUV having better music than WJAS, but JAS is more full service with hourly news even during the night. I don't listen to "Rock" stations enough to compare them. I think that WWRM and WSHH are about the same, but Star beats Mix because Mix has Tesh twice a day.
