- Snap! 94.1 is looking for an on-air entertainer for Afternoons in Memphis. They are seeking someone who loves the Soul of the South, who likes to have fun doing radio, does killer phones, and has the energy to light up the Rhythm of Memphis. Must be a team player, a radio warrior or warriorette, and someone who enjoys doing a live 5 hour radio. If you have music skills and/or mixing skills, that's huge. I had some too, (quite "Meepish" ones I might add), but purposely just went right on by.

Does anybody that has been in the business more than 30 minutes believe that SNAP has a chance at all. There's a lot of format options out there and SNAP was chosen. That speaks volumes about the people running the company. Since SNAP came along, no one on this board should be making fun of Flinn Broadcasting, the poster child for bad moves.

Here's a company that has taken a signal-impaired Class A, and made it a real success. By the way, that statement can apply to either 107.1 or 107.5.

In the business world success is defined by P&L, profit and loss, EBITA, earnings before income tax adjustment, etc.

Ratings on a class A, Class B, Class C or whatever do not make it a success.

Here's a good thread starter...ratings or revenue. If you're an owner, invester, partner, etc, ratings are nice for a good party, but the cash is more important.

If you're a personality, programmer, OM, engineer, receptionist, ratings are great bragging rights.

If you're an AE trying to sell low ratings, good luck. If you're a GM, you are probably got a big bonus hanging out there on profit and loss.
 
Radio has always been a stick and carrot kind of life. We operate in the public interest with government oversight, usually myopic, but in the public arena along with every other entity, NON-government regulated. Nobody ever got into radio ownership totally for altruistic reasons and succeeded. Lots of us got employed in radio without thinking about the end game. It's kind of like the difference between being a kid and a responsible adult. The kid has the fun, for awhile; the adult tries to keep his/her eyes on the big picture, and that's not always the same thing. Still, it's THE GREAT GAME for most of us, and always will be.

Not going too far into it myself...EXCEPT to say that IMHO-common sense says to do country.
The signal is "Same as it ever was" (thanks Talking Heads), but it makes more sense to go after a portion of the audience that one radio station has-than to go after a portion of the audience of ALL THE OTHER DAMN STATIONS!
You see...whatever portion you get with country will be much larger than the tiny sliver you'd get as your portion of ALL the others.

If 94.1 doesn't do it...somebody (FM) should. The better the signal=Bonus.

I don't even care that much for country.
