Sneak Peak Friday Nights!

I assume this belongs on classic T.V. Remember during the 70's at the start of the new T.V. season, there would be sneak peak Friday nights on the three networks, ABC, CBS, NBC.? Half hour shows with bits of the new Saturday morning cartoons. I miss the cartoons of my childhood. The only one I can watch today is Pokemon, but it's not the same. :(

Good reason half-hour preview shows for Saturday-morning network schedules aren't done anymore.

The only reason ABC, CBS and NBC still run children's programming is to satisfy the FCC "E/I" rules.

And each network only airs three hours of children's programs a week. Most of these shows are recycled programs from the Disney Channel (ABC), Nick Jr. (CBS) and Discovery Channel (NBC).

Had the "E/I" rules not existed, I suspect ABC, CBS and NBC would all have given up children's programming long ago. They probably would only be programming two hours on Saturday mornings, between 8 and 10 A.M. ET, with weekend editions of their early-morning news shows. The rest of Saturday mornings would have been given back to the local affiliates, where in large markets, ABC/CBS/NBC affiliates would likely have preceded and followed the network morning shows with local news (7-8 A.M. and 10 A.M.-12 Noon ET).

Ah, childhood memories. I feel bad for the children of today. Growning up as a kid in the 70's wasn't really a bad thing. At least for me, anyway.<P ID="signature">______________

Same here. I loved growing up in the 70s. I know that the 70s were a very turbulant time for the country, but as children, we were really still pretty well shielded from all of that stuff so that we could maintain our childhood innocence. I imagine that the 70s were probably the last decade where a child could be a child without being bombarded with all of the nastiness of the world around him. Even though things had started to change, for the better part of the decade we still only had a few TV channels, AM radio still played popular music, and a kid could still play outside without worrying about being abducted. Not a bad time to grow up at all.

And teevee was more innocent too. Sometimes it's uneasy trying to find something I can watch with my kid, and not deal with adult humor. My daughter has a real inquisitive mind and always asks " What does that mean ?"
Ugh!
