SNL Glitch?

While watching last night's Saturday night Live, I noticed a glitch.
There was a sketch where there was a reporter intended to appear to be in a park setting, interviewing a bike/swim/jogger, but the background went black for a few seconds with the words "fire alarm" written in the center of the screen in white. Then the background switched back to the proper park screen.
(note: you could still see the reporter doing the interview, it was just the background that messed up.)

Probably an error with the video switching.

This will be a somewhat technical explanation, but here goes:

The process is called "chromakey", in which in the studio, there is a large blue (or more likely today, green) screen.

The video switcher in the control-room is set in such a way that an image can be "keyed" onto the green screen and appear behind the performer(s) in front of the green screen. Except for comedy purposes, the person(people) in front of a green screen cannot wear green (and cannot wear blue in front of a blue screen).

The most common use of this in television is weather reports.

What went wrong is that the wrong image (the words "Fire Alarm" instead of the park scene) was "keyed" into the background for a few seconds.

The technical director may have accidentally punched-up the wrong button, showing the words "Fire Alarm" in the background for a few seconds, or may have lightly pressed the button that put the park scene in the background, but the buttom popped "up", putting the wrong image in the background for a few moments.

I realize this was quite technical, but I hope I explained it in understandable language.
 
That was the title for the next taped segment they aired for the musical fire alarm.
 
This particular show wasnt all that bad either. Lance Armstrong did a pretty decent job and his girlfriend/fiance/lover Sheryl Crow sounded great and looked pretty decent in a couple of sketches.

Gotta disagree with you guys there. Probably the least funny episode so far this season, with the most gaffes. A lot of awkward pauses -- and not just from Lance. Even the regular players seemed a bit off last week.
