SNL Season Finale May 17, 2014

Former castmember Andy Samberg hosted the season finale of SNL and he brought along a lot of friends, except for digital short buddy Justin Timberlake who is apparently touring in Russia.

Appearing with Samberg and the regular cast were former castmembers Maya Rudolph (cold open); Seth Myers and Bill Hader (monologue) and Martin Short; actor Paul Rudd; and former castmembers Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen and rapper 2 Chainz.

Maya, Bill, Paul, Kristen and Fred all appeared in other sketches. Seth did not appear in a sketch but was onstage for the goodbye.

The show didn't suck as many have this season.

Maya Rudolph has a variety show on NBC on Monday, Fred is also in it, and Fred is also Seth's bandleader on Late Night.

I would expect SNL to do a little cast-trimming by next season.

My pic for this episode, by far, was the second digital short, which had a cameo from Pharrell. It was quite good, actually. Still trying to decide if Jay Pharoah does a better impression of Jay-Z or Kanye, because they're both pretty damn good!

That skit with the weird family making out was funny!

I thought it was a great season ender. The Vogelchecks are always funny and spaced out enough not to be stale. I'm interested if there will be any cast changes. No one has announced that they are leaving and there are a lot of Featured Players. Is seven the most amount of women cast members?

Seth was in the opening monologue too.

I was glad to see Bill and Fred. I only discovered the show last season when they started doing the condensed prime time reruns. Before that I had only seen the specials showing themes such as Christmas or sports sketches or sketches with a particular cast member. And I quickly became a fan of Seth. "Weekend Update" just isn't the same. Bill and Fred were my favorite cast members in sketches, and Bill recently got an American Comedy Award which was well-deserved. At least Vanessa is still around. Aidy Bryant is my other favorite female. Kenan is currently my favorite among the men.

Nasim Pedrad will probably be leaving as she has been signed to the cast of an upcoming show in the fall, the name of which escapes me. She has been mostly invisible the last 2 seasons, usually showing up well after midnight in minor roles although the last couple of weeks we've seen her quite early in the show. Maybe it was Lorne Michaels' way of saying goodbye, giving her some early time.

If this was Nasim's last season, too bad. She was a person who always flew a little under the radar doing a lot of good impersonations and brought energy to each skit.
