United Media Licensing, which owns the "Peanuts" brand, has been sold by The E.W. Scripps Co. to the Iconix Brand Group for $175 million. However, Scripps will continue to own and operate United Media's syndication operation, though it is not known if it's a sign that they will discontinue the "Peanuts Classics" comic strip.
And to make this relevant to television, one wonders if this means different broadcasting deals for the "Peanuts" TV specials. At any rate, this kind of reminds me of when all of the PBS stations eventually phased the late "Mister Rogers" out of their schedules.
