SNOW IS ON THE WAY
2 QUESTIONS

1 WHO DOES THE CLOSINGS THE BEST ( RADIO ONLY)

2 HOW LONG BEFORE THE WEATHER HYPE GAME SWINGS THE OTHER WAY??? OF IS IT HERE TO STAY.

3 OK A 3RD QUESTION. IS THE WEATHER EVEN RELEVANT TO RADIO ANYMORE AT ALL.
DOES VH 1 DO THE WEATHER. DOES ESPN .... AS WE ALL SEARCH FOR LISTNERS WHICH WAY IS THE BALL BOUNCING AS PER WEATHER INFORAMTION???

4 TH QUESTION JUST TO TOSS A CURVE????
HOW MUCH ALCOHOL SHOULD YOU CONSUME ON AN HOURLY BASIS IN OUR FINE BUSINESS
1 DRINK 2 OR 10 ... I JUST WAT TO KNOW

>>>A 3RD QUESTION. IS THE WEATHER EVEN RELEVANT TO RADIO ANYMORE AT ALL.<<<

Sure. People listen to the radio a lot: in the morning at home, in their cars to and from work, and at work. Even if all we say is, "It's going to snow this afternoon, but no big deal," that helps people. I don't think people expect much more than that; just the immediate forecast, which will tide them over until they get home and can watch as much as they want on the evening news or on TWC.

>>>4 TH QUESTION. HOW MUCH ALCOHOL SHOULD YOU CONSUME ON AN HOURLY BASIS IN OUR FINE BUSINESS.<<<

None. Even one ounce of alcohol is enough to start impairing your judgement and, given what some people on-air do with nothing onboard, you don't want to impair their immature brains anymore than they are already.
______________

> 1 WHO DOES THE CLOSINGS THE BEST ( RADIO ONLY)

I currently live in Scranton but I work in the Stroudsburg area (I also lived their for 15 years) and I can honestly say no one does snow better that WSBG. They live for this time of year. School, church, road closings are updated frequently. They even announce points of interest such as the library, mall, doctors and even the Croooossings ( all apologies to Gary in the Morning). Their advertising department actively markets the snow closings as well. In the winter everyone listened to WSBG regardless of the music they were playing.

When I returned to Scranton I was surprised that local radio is totally different. Radio in Scranton seems to find snow closings as an inconvenience not a community service combined with a money making opportunity. I never watched TV for closings until I moved back to Scranton . Maybe it is a small town vs city thing. Now for the school closings...

I Don't Think Anybody on Radio Still Does It.

If They Do It's Not Very Comprehensive.

Nothing was ever Like Harry West And Jack Donniger

With The WARM Icicle Network.

That's How People Knew If They Had To Go To School.

The Local Stations TV stations Only Care About shrinking down the picture,

And Selling The Ad space.

Remember when they Did Business Closings Too?

>>>Now for the school closings...<<<

When I was in high school, I worked in the news department at WICC, in Bridgeport CT, and knew the closing code for my school. Of all the irresponsible things I've done in my life, that particular one was never even considered. I was at a good station and I wanted to stay there.
______________

I don't remember that ...

But think of Something Kids Now Have No concept of...

The sound of Coal Being delivered ...

That Constant Wooooooosh... As It Flowed From The Truck To The Bin.

Brings A Tear To The Eye Huh? ... Maybe It's The Coal Dust.
Edited by MCNDRWS on 11/13/05 02:51 PM.

Minor correction: "Operation Snowflake" not the "Icicle Network." "Icicle Network was/is AAA's thing.

It's one of the thing that p-o's me in this market. TV took everything radio created, and radio rolls over and does nothing. It surrenders rather than re-invents.

WCOZ/WEMR and WBZR do the school closings/delays each and every time there are any...and we take all the calls live and in person from the school districts too....

To young to remeber business closings unless it was Tobyhanna Army Depot. Or maybe it was just another delay on the way to hearing that the Scranton School District was not closed.

In NJ there is a group of stations that do business closing, WSUS WNNJ etc. They announce they are paid for but I can not remember the exact phrasing but they do sell the air time.

That's Nice To Know Ben .. Thanks

Yeah, Years Ago The Closings Told You About Work and Business Too.

The Globe Store - Closed
The Scranton Dry - Closed Today
No 2nd Shift At Scranton Lace.
Busses On Snow Emergency Routes.

That Was Nice To Hear.

But In This Age of Multi Frequency Coverage Areas

And Half The State Cable TV Coverage, I Guess It's Impossible

To Pull off Anymore.
Edited by MCNDRWS on 11/14/05 04:55 PM.
