SNOW=RADIO FUN

You can call me old fashioned but when there is snow or a chance of snow or any inclement weather radio has a real opportunity to shine.Any mention of the white stuff and southerners get giddy(myself included).I think its exciting giving live weather updates,closings,taking calls from adults who become childlike(myself included).Its fun and it just makes you feel like you are helping someone
and doing what radio is supposed to do which is serve your audience in a real way.I don't care if there are 20 others sources for info most people I think still turn to radio and we have an obligation to provide our listeners with the best possible coverage.It is sad when you hear unmanned stations remain unmanned in times like this.Any station worth their salt should have live people on the air when a situation like this comes along.You should treat your station like you are the only source of information that a person has.This is a time to actually serve the public.Some stations have forgotten this.I am proud to be at 107.9 because
the folks at the station understand how important they are at a time like this.Its gonna be fun tommorrow and if you just let your station run like nothing is happening.... shame on you.Just my opinion and I can't wait to have some snowcream and listen to all those excited people who will act like they have never seen a flake in their lives(myself included).....

I agree with you 100%! I loved it when I was a child I'd listen to the radio constantly and I even imagined that I was "snowed in" at the station just so I could be the one voice everyone heard all the information from. Deregulation and corporate structure has destroyed the fun and importantness of this business. I still love snow and get all excited when there is even a slight possibility of it falling here. I'd love to see the BIG 18 incher we had in 1980 again that was so cool!

Remember the big snow of 2000 or 2001? II can't remember exactly if it was 2000 or 2001 but that one is the biggest one I remember.
We might even get some flakes here in Charleston SC tomorrow night.
Awesome.
No church on Sunday, or work for that matter.
Better get my milk and bread.
I love snow.

I remember February 1973 when it snowed from Columbia to the coast of South Carolina. We had nearly two feet of snow then and I don't think with all of the other times it has snowed that we have seen that much snow since.

Hey guys, why not come visit me in Indiana...we usually have plenty. Better yet, visit Maine...last April, we had consecutive weekends with 18 inch snowfalls...3 feet in less than 2 weeks! It was a blast!

Ahhhhhh Yessssss!!!!! Radio Snow Stories. I was working at WPUB radio in little ole' Camden SC when we had the big storm of 93. It was one of the weirdest weather days I have ever seen!!! I was doing some board op work that afternoon for Clemson who was in the ACC tourney... When I got to the station that morning it was in the low 40's then all of a sudden the winds really started cranking. The temp rose to around 62 degrees and man it felt good, but then it started to thunder and lightning like it was no bodies business. The warm weather lasted for about 20 minutes till the wind started cranking again. This time they shifted to the NW and that was when it started to really snow. It kept snowing and snowing. Since I could not see to drive I just stayed at the station. Me and one other jock took turns doing air shifts... I was stuck there for about 36 hours till the roads were in good shape. I had a blast and made a lot of friends who to this very day I still keep in contact with. I guess you could say I was one of those lucky jocks who got stuck in a small town station and had a blast!!! CC1
