Well boys and girls...which station or stations will be stepping-up to the plate to bring us the best forecast, traffic, closings, etc. coverage when the snow hits? Better yet, which ones will just keep lettin' the computer play the hits?

4 out of 5 will let the computer play the hits...When did radio's definition of public service change so drastically??? and don't start giving me the old well we've got more ways to get our info now..In my opinion... so what... you must act as though you are the only source of info to your listeners because to someone or lots of someones you probably are..

allenv has hit the nail on the old head! I believe they are still called "radio stations" NOT "website services" or "phone app services!" Too darn bad the F-C-C doesn't hold station owners' feet to the fire like it was in the good ole days!

three things:
1. which stations? on FM, NPR stations will do a better job than most.
2. the FCC treats the AM/FM bands as an old aunt in the attic.
3. computers play the hits, make (Auto-Tune) the hits, and pay the hits.

I know this will never happen but in my opinion if a radio station is on the air it should be FCC regs a live operator has to be in the building 24/7....Period... OK now you can give me a hundred reasons why this is not doable or reasonable and why I live in la la land!!!!

Let's see what happens this coming Friday! They are already hyping the forecast for snow and ice!! Who will be local??? NADA!

Not sure if FCC regs ever distinctly required the presence of live ops on the programming side, but the rules used to be more strict regarding engineers for some types of licensees. But I will say this-- the listening public was better served in the day when stations truly performed as "public trustees", the FCC's now defunct criteria (for what it's worth) for the role of radio broadcasters.
