So, 2011...

Well, it's almost about that time to wave 2010 a goodbye AND begin what may happen for Charlotte area radio for 2011:

Lets face it: Major changes will be few but its always good to hope:
this is what I see happening in 2011...
ONLY FM:
87.5-92.7---- I could care less.
1. 95.1 - Great station! One of the best!!
Maybe or is it possible that it will lean more Rhythmatic (like B96 in Chicago??). Maybe? Doubtful, Not one bit. They're morning show however, just does not fit for a large-midsized market. Just does not fit with the direction it's going..
2. 95.7 - Its likely something major will happen: Maybe become a full-blown Classic Hits/Oldies Station??Re-branding themselves as "Charlottes True Oldies Station"....Just like in Atlanta. It might be nice to bring the "Majic" back, Charlotte?!
3. 96.1 - Sounding more Mainstream CHR by the day. Re-name the station as "Radio Now" or a regular Clear Channel Top-40 type name.. Other than the "Beat".
4. 96.9 - Just fine. Its Country and will be it for awhile!!
5. 97.9 - Just fine. Hip Hop LIVES!!
6. 99.3 - It's a Talk Station but it can barely be heard in all of Charlotte.
7. 101.9 - Fine
8. 102.9 - Yuck, it's basically the Soft Rock Channel feed on iHeart Radio. Might as well rename the station to "The iHeart Radio's Soft Rock Station on 102.9." ;)...There is no more local music selection Charlotte. It's all syndicated.... And it's how CC does it" ;)
One word: Shame.
9. 103.7 - Fine, just like 96.9, again. It's Country of course.
10.104.7 - Talk? Sports? Charlotte needs one of those!
11. 105.3 - Spanish! Que Pasa Charlotte?! :D
12. 106.5 - The End. That's right, the End is near. CC really knows how to name their stations well...
13. 107.9 - Hot-AC? Talk? C'mon guys, you have to choose one! I'm going Full Blown News Talk calling it...
"Charlotte's #1 Home to Get LINKed in the news...107.9 The Link"!!

I might be crazy but who knows?!

Happy Holidays, y'all!

95.7 needs a major overhaul. Their jingles with the motorcycles starting up and the way "THE RIDE" is announced is absolutely irritating. Time for Oldies/Classic Hits and a decent jingle.

107.9 needs to switch to full time music. We have enough talk on AM

looking at PPM numbers, I see no major changes except for 105.3. I would expect to see some tweaking on 106.5, 95.7, and 107.9. Not really flips, just tweaks with 107.9 more music oriented, 95.7 more classic hits oriented, and 106.5 an active-leaning alternative.

We can all dream can't we? Unfortuanely there seems to be so much parity in the ratings that everyone seems to have found their nighe and are blindly, and blandly, comfortable. But hey, if we're dreaming...

92.7 - Go all out hip hop or old school R&B and quit trying to be a clone of V101.9.
94.1 - True Oldies - once the recession's oevr, get yourself into mooresville and drop the K-Love. You were sounding so good there for a while.
95.7 - Go true oldies or classic hits and quit pretending to be a rock station from the '70's. Even better, go AAA.
96.1 - I guess the more mainstream sound is working for you, but a true dance sound line KTU in New York would be pretty cool
97.3 - Charlotte based Hot AC - reposition yourself as a Charlotte station and localize. You have a small but loyal fan abse down here already. Build on it and do some damage to the other AC's.
103.3 (1370) - Jazz - Both traditional and smooth. You're a small signal and have nothing to lose and could fill a void in this market
106.5 - Blank or get off the pot. Make the call! Are you alternative or are you active? Either way, make the call but don't call yourself the new rock elader and then play some tired Motley Crue song afterwards. We see right through that. A total overhaul may be in order here.
107.9 - Rebrand and go Hot AC - Come on, you know you've been wanting to do it for a while now. Have at it!

Yet another way conSLUTants messed up the genre known as "rock": Let's merge new alternative acts with some hard classics & call it "active"! For as we know, the average Linkin Park listener also wants some Crue. ::)

Wanna save 106.5? Keep the classics on 99.7.

99.3 exists because 1110 WBT can barely be heard in all of Charlotte.

No, 99.3 exists because 1110 can barely be heard south and west of Charlotte in the suburbs. 1110 is fine in Charlotte proper.

I don't agee with you about 1065 and no Classic hard rock.....93.3 The Planet does it and it's a great station...It's what most people listen to here who like a good mix of old & new rock....I do agree with you about making up their damn minds :-\ ..One week they play The Crue next week bad new rock songs shoved down your throat over & over again...Pick one and don 't get our hopes up

Hey, I like a good active rock station and wish Charlotte had one. If 106.5 wants to be one, great! Do it, but don't be masking yourself as an alternative station doing it. We ca see right through that. If you're going to be an alternative station, follow the route of WFNX in Boston or 99X in Atlanta with a good mix of 80's 90's college rock like REM, Cure, Nirvana, Smiths, etc. with newer groups like Silversun Pickups, Metric, White Stripes, etc. and don't throw some random Crue or Ozzy song in the middle of that. If you're going to become Active, go all out with the classics, the 80's hair metal, and lots of the hard stuff coming out today. Most importantly, rebrand yourself and quit calling yourself 'The End'. Let someone else take the alt challenge if they think there's a market for it here. Unfortunately, 106.5 has been one of the most directionless, 'let's see what sticks since we're the only game in town' - type rock stations for years. A major overhaul is in order here.

See my analogy above. This is why active doesn't work.

Rock currently needs only two formats: Classic rock & new rock. Their paths cross only during the 90's. It's that simple.

Planet is one of the most poorly programmed active rockers in the country, and their local ratings show it. They need an overhaul as well, starting with the morning show, ditching the classic rock & hardening up on the new rock.

WHY do 106.5 the END play some Classic Rock during their music rotation? it does not make one bit of sense. That is 99.7's role, not theirs. Make it more AAA friendly and Active between. PLus, the signal is not as strong as it could be.... Overall, what I am trying to say is that 106.5 the END should take on the role of a Radio 104.5 in Philly and/or 98.7fm in L.A.

And if this irrelevant or not, why not put the Panthers on 106.5?

I'm enjoying K-LOVE. Keep it!

Translation: Don't follow the WRXP/New York "rock experience" playbook. :D

@w00t and amos: Note in my post on the purpose of 99.3 FM's existence, I intended for there to be an emphasis on the word "all" when I wrote "all of Charlotte", but I was playing on the context of a previous post.
