So are Dan and Alfie out at KEGL? Finally?

That would make sense but the question is what format and what it costs to get it to where it needs to be. If you're trying to divide an audience one or two stations already has is more likely going to spend a huge amount trying to achieve the numbers they want and they may never achieve that.

My post is PURE SPECULATION on my part, but here it goes.....What if iHeart was making moves behind the scenes to flip to some type of talk based format. iHeart approached Mike Soiros and Danny Balis to be part of this flip and that's why they left KTCK AM/FM. Again this post is PURE SPECULATION.
IF........they were to do this, what day part do they go up against the Ticket with?

Ahhh go back to 93.3 The Bone. That will work.....hahahahahaha
There could be a potential to shave some numbers off of KZPS and complement the Ticket sports format. The Bone did well when they first launched it. It probably wouldn’t overtake KZPS, but it might be more successful than the CHR format if they program it right.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't The Bone do better after The Eagle flipped to Sunny back in 2004?

Because I would agree that Cumulus would do better running some sort of rock format on 93.3 better than the disaster CHR they have now.

I’m still kind of stuck about this one. The Eagle has been around for years. Doesn’t it’s heritage branding help give them a boost in billing?

No. Heritage branding is not a factor. Number of listeners and in the right demos means sales. Ad Agencies could care less if the station has been in a certain format for a long time.

The Eagles cume is massive. It has zero TSL. That says the music is off, and for people who have an ear for active rock, we know how effed up the playlist is.

The right thing to do would be to make the change to the correct music, end the talk shows, and run promos DAY AND NIGHT apologizing for having gotten it wrong. Then deliver.

It can be salvaged with as much heritage as it has, but its a LONG way back. The audience is DYING to love it, but when you play Tonic into some Beach Boys into some Muse into some Jan And Dean into some Bryan Adams, how in the hell is ANYONE going to love it?

I guess I was right.

They could have let Dan and Alfie work three more weeks and then say goodbye to their fans today like Ayo did. Dumping them the way they did was a diss to both Russ and his fans. Not a good thing when you are starting a new format going after the same demographic.

Love him or hate him, Russ made a lot of money for that station. He and his listeners deserved better.

That show should never have existed. Not being mean or rude, it was just weak all around. It, nor do Ben and Skin - have any relevancy whatsoever with a real Eagle listener. (Other than their mere association with Russ.)

If 93.3. doesn't go PURE rock, I'll be mystified. The format they have now isn't doing jack sh*t and it certainly cannot be billing anything.

I will admit that “Russ Martin’s Call Screener and Another Guy Who Worked with Russ” was not the strongest show, but they did have thier listeners. Why make them mad? The dog’s breakfast of a music mix they ran the rest of the day wasn’t getting them ratings either and they let that run a few more weeks. Killing the Tree House early was a slap in the face to Russ fans and another example of tacky corporate politics.

Ben and Skin is a different issue. I think they put them in place because there was a long term plan to flip the station to sports. Bringing two sports talk guys to an active rock station doesn’t make sense any other way.

I remember when Mark Cuban would show up as a guest on the Russ Martin Show. There is no way you won’t be hearing more from him on the new station. He will be a big part of this. The flip to sports was in play for a long time.

There many possible reasons why they were dropped early. Perhaps because their contract was up. In any case, we're talking about a low rated station.

Let's be honest: The Russ fans left a while ago. That's why the ratings are where they are.

I know that in April of this year, they were wanting to add someone to the Treehouse to give it more attitude. At that time, there was not a plan in place, from Don Davis' angle anyway, to do anything else to the format. Now, what people above HIM were thinking, I dunno, and you're probably right.

Yes, some of it's ratings. But Russ wasn't responsible for the other 21 hours of programming.

The Mavs. Bang.

Ben and Skin. Bang.

Playing oldies and alternative. Bang.

Nail fully in coffin. Bury it.

The minute Cumulus walked away from the LMA at 103.3 and it flipped to religion was the day iHeart started thinking about sports.

Aren't you the guy who has been talking about a strong morning show? Howard Stern showed that a strong morning show can overcome shortcomings in other dayparts.

None of the music stations - without a strong morning show - are surviving financially. You can look at the Miller Kaplan numbers and it shows that very clearly. KVIL - music - no morning show and OKAY ratings, dead last in revenue.

WPAB, The Ticket and Kiss are #1.

93.3 should hire some of the old talent from the Eagle that were good and go rock. Have a massive morning show and run to the money and ratings. Not a great signal, but it would cover the metro just fine.
