So, did anybody hear what DVE was doing Saturday night?

I flipped on DVE only to hear Sir Mixalot's "Baby got back." I'm not kidding you. This was followed by Confu Fighting. So, was there someone who was going to flip to a Jack type station today, and CC wanted to scare the competition out of doing something, or could this eventually lead to other things?
Thoughts?

>I doubt it that DVE will change formats considering it has been around for over 35 years and the ratings are extremely high. That would be the biggest shock in Pittsburgh radio if DVE went Jack. However, I am listening this morning and they are playing their regular rock format. Why they played Sir Mix a lot and Kung Fu Fighting is very puzzling. One of the guys on the variety hits board said that Jack FM stations come on board without any advanced warning. I guess we will have to stay tuned and see what happens.

WDVE is doing different themes on Saturday

I heard a David Allen Coe song myself, but it was, and forgive me for not remembering the actual name, but it was a "Weird Song Saturday" type of promotion.

A couple of weeks ago it was an "'80s Saturday"- which I loved! So they are just putting out themes.

Now, I don't know. Maybe it's a test- to see if one of the Clear Channel stations should go JACK- to see if maybe they should put more hair bands in their classic rock mix on WDVE- but I wouldn't really put anything into it but WDVE trying to keep their station a bit fresh and lively with new things- which I applaud.

Re: WDVE is doing different themes on Saturday

It's funny you should mention that, as when the DJ came on the air he said, "This aint no electric lunch/deep cut weekend, we're just playing whatever we feel like."

Re: WDVE is doing different themes on Saturday

They called it the "What the F*** Weekend". Just something to wake up the listeners. (Although, Sir-Mix-A-Lot seems way offsides.)

Also heard Ray Stevens' "The Streak"....

I think there is something to the idea that by doing these weekends, stations feel they can take away the novelty that a Jack format would have, and therefore make it less likely to happen...<P ID="signature">______________

I agree.

One would think DVE and it's staff would have the wits to them to "keep it in their format", even when doing a "what the hell (BLEEP) weekend".
