Karen Blake while not JJ, sounds better than I would ahve thought, still the Boston accented almost TOO LOCAL sounding jock you would expect but the station hasnt fallen to the ground or anything. The future is to be determined.

Good luck KB

Re: Karen Blake ... So far so good

What did one expect? She's a pro. No one said it would mean the end of Oldies. It is obvious that they wanted a different, perhaps better sound and more energy in the afternoons, though JJ a pro as well, did not deliver what perhaps PD Falconi envisioned for the stations future.
My only critique, though not a bad thing, were the staged(peppered) listener calls.
In todays radio climate, one can only wish the best for her, and JJ as well.

I happened to catch the first 10-15 minutes of what turned out to be JJ's final afternoon show yesterday (Thursday) and had an inkling it was his final show. The first tune he played was "Last Dance".

Anyone catch more of the show?? Did JJ actually say anything about moving to overnights?? Thank people for listening?? Invite them to listen to him overnights??

and this is what a pro does... a pro just moves along to the next event
and makes it a seamless transition. does not come in and blow his own
horn or make any excess noise. and that you heard nothing other than a
song that WODS might play anyway, but those "in the know" try to read
between the lines, is the mark of a true pro.

True, true true.

I happen to catch a couple of hours of the afternoon show at Oldies yesterday and I must say I thought Karen put a much needed spark back in a station that was kind of stale. It sounded like she had been on there for years. I agree with another post - she is a definate pro. I think Falconi made a very smart move for the future of that radio station (if he ever wanted to move her to mornings). Also,I heard a few phone calls and those people seemed very sincere in being glad to hear her on the radio again.

I think it really goes without saying that both Karen and JJ are pros. I have to say though - I was very impressed on Friday with what I heard. Karen actually breathed life into an "Oldies" station. She made it sound fresh (if that's possible) I have to hand it to her she was excellent.

> Sure she's a pro but that does not automatcailly make her GOOD, or more specifically a good match for that station especially given who she replaced. Also while no one predeicted "the end of oldies" most on this board anyway were not looking forward to her taking that shift. SO I merely mentioned that while I expected little she was better than I thought she would be although I still think JJ is the better candidate for that job. My opinion nothing more.

She did from what I heard, but so did J.J., in my opinion. I enjoyed his energy and professionalism, the way he used vocal dynamics in his announcing, and his "friendly" style.
