Why isn't there a Energy station back in Chicago? I also didn't realize that KTU was CC.... for some dumb reason I thought it was Infinity.

1.8 million Puerto Ricans, most second and third generation.

(IOW, Chicago does not have the same ethnic make-up as NY, and KTU is seriously driven by Hispanics from the Caribbean. WKTU would have less than a 2 share without the Puerto Ricans.)

Yes, those Hispanics were really jamming to Energy here in Chicago. Unbelievable.

It would be nice to have a "WKTU" AND "HOT97" RADIO STATION IN CHICAGO... But this is chicago where the radio stations copy each other and sound the same..no one trys to stand out..

You can "dial" up KTU almost anytime you want on the internet.

Energy was significantly different from KTU. And Chicago Hispanics are nearly all Mexican, not form the Caribbean. Other than that, you post makes perfect sense.

You are wound way too tight.

Yes it is obvious the primary group they target is Puerto Ricans and the second bloc they target are Italians and other Europeans.

Energy and KTU are 2 different beasts, but a KTU in Chicago , tweaked for Chicago, could make it more palatable for 25-54's.
______________

This is the kind of response without substance that is typical of a situation where no facts support an argument, so invective or insult take over.

The facts are:

1. WKTU's cume contains over a third Hispanics, nearly all of wnom are Puerto Rican.

2. Energy was never remotely similar to KTU.

3. Chicago Hispanics are narly all Mexican.

Why are you so disturbed when actual, verifiable, data is presented?

David, do you ever take a break from your skewed research and breathe? I made a comment that was intended as a joke. As I said before, you must be a blast at a party.

The problem is that Chicago Hispanics are not dance friendly. The Dance FM in Mexico City is #23, with 1/15 the share of the #1 station. Just no dance core.

Anything that disagrees with you is skewed? In this case, Arbitron and the US Census?

Now ad hominems are jokes. I see.

I doubt we share any friends.

Very, very different beasts. The playlists alone tell a large part of the story. Energy was somewhat edgy on its dance selection, very current and a lot more trance oriented than KTU is. From what I've seen, KTU features many more gold tracks in their playlist, understandable since they do well with a somewhat older demo. You also hear a lot more freestyle on KTU.

I'd love for another Energy-style station to return to Chicago, but in my eyes, there's not a lot of good dance product out there that's capable of drawing new listeners into the dance fold. Sure, you could play remixes of mainstream songs all the time... will your core dance listeners be happy listening to remixes of Rob Thomas and Kelly Clarkson all day long? Try something tuned specifically to the dance crowd in Chicago... throw in some disco, dance-oriented 80's new wave... and a lot of the early 90's club songs that were big on B96/WLUW/WCRX back about 15 years ago.. it's surprising how many people remember those songs.

Blah, blah, blah. Say whatever you will, but once again David is right, demographics and all. But in this case demographics don't show that Latinos in NYC and Chicago are different. And in this case, it matters. KTU has always done well with Latinos, which in NYC are in large part Puerto Rican, Dominican, AND Mexican, along with Colombian and Ecuadorian and Cuban... all in pretty large numbers. Overall, a more dance-friendly crowd than Latinos in most other US cities, maybe even Miami (depending on who you talk to). Not to mention a metro area that's more international and diverse than anywhere else than perhaps LA.

I heart NY!
