So Infinity says 103.7 weekends will be music...

But the release says it will be a mix of Classic and Active Rock.

Uhh, isn't that what KIOZ does 24/7 already(minus the Chargers broadcasts)?

I hope they don't play Styx into Audioslave. Or Supertramp into Tool.
______________

It's basically bad radio: one station during the week and another on weekends.

Infinity is clueless.

Just this week we've learned that their two key radio experts are now Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, but I think it was Stephen Colbert who suggested music on the weekends, or maybe it was Eric Cartman.

That is the formula they have been using at KLSX in LA for quite a while. They are obviously pleased with it to import it all to San Diego...

Overall, KLSX does about as well in the LA ratings as the Planet did in San Diego and without Stern it has little or nothing going for it.

How's their billing?

Re: Infinity is clueless - Real Radio! (sorry K.M.)

Yes I remember back in 1997 "Real Radio" KLSX 97.1 had AAA music on the weekends for a few months to fill the void left behind in February '97 by FM 101.9. I have several tapes of their weekend programming during that time.

Soon to be declining.

their ratings relative to LA are much better than the Planets. They do bill a ton of money. The difference is that you can run much higher commercial inventory loads on a talk station than a music station. They do very well financially. I think they were in the 35-40 million range in annual billing.

While I can't disagree with that, I think it would have been better to actually answer the question as posed ...
______________

But they're not the only ones to have done it. Clear Channel did it as recently as last year with their now-defunct Real Radio FM talk station in Atlanta. They were talk during the week and alternative on the weekends. Even B97 in New Orleans did this about ten years ago when they would be talk during the week and play top 40 music on weekends, holidays and late nights. I'd have to side with you on this one. If you're gonna be talk or play music, pick one and stick with it.

$$$ vs. $$$$$$$$$$

Hmm, a better question is: What's the profit margin and thier return on investment?

If they can eek out a better return on the investment than before, that'll keep the stockholders happy.

As much as I loved the local talent of Cindy, JM, and Dawson, if Infinity can run the station cheaper and clear $$$$$$$$$$ in the long run .... the bidness decision to move from rock to talk will rock the talk of the stockholders.

Because it is a requirement of NAFTA rules and the FCC and SBCATT rules:
