So Long Bill Davis

Longtime Tyler talent Bill Davis is leaving the market & heading up to the Seattle area.
Bill has been doing the KDOK morning show for a few years now, and previously he was at KOOI. Bill is probably best known for his many years piloting morning drive at KTYL.
He's a talented guy. Good luck, Bill.

Which station in Seattle?
Is he trying to become Frazier Crane?
Haha

Good Luck, Bill. I have a certain sort of respect for him --
we worked together many years ago.

Uh, sad to say, Frasier Crane has more hair than me.

My much-more-talented friend Eye "Ira" Lipson is WAY too kind. My wife and I bought a place north of Seattle and are looking forward to living amongst the Cascade mountains and Puget Sound.

And I shall continue to check in on the board....I always enjoy the insight and comments from everyone here. Friday the 16th will my last day.

All the best from me to all of you who love radio so much!!

Bill D.

So -- are you retiring or heading for a new gig?

Man -- Bill Leaves Tyler the same day Stern heads to the bird...
makes you wonder, huh? (ha)

Oh yeah, sure, me and Stern are often mentioned in the same breath. Sheeez! Was it Don Imus that once said, "After listening to Howard Stern, I now know more about his p*nis than I do my own." ?

Anyway, no major gig coming up....puh-leeez, a no talent hack like me would never even get a sniff in the Seattle market. My plans are to kick back and watch 'Oprah'.

Actually, my wife and I have some business interests in Washington and thought it was a good time to make the move. I might do some part time radio stuff to keep my mitts in the biz, who knows?

I'll be the one in the business suit on I-5 holding the sign that says "WILL CONSULT FOR FOOD"

So long Bill and best wishes. You have always done the best Ron Chapman imitation since... well, uh... Ron Chapman. (And that's not a slap, that's a compliment to you both)

Seriously, you were smart enough to emulate one of the best ever, and you did a great job of it. Ron's style with your own peppering of personality and East Texas charm made a lot of difference for a long time.

You (like so many others) simply became the victim of bland, homogenized, stale, sound alike, corporate crud that is sending so many to XM and Sirius... and sending you to Seattle.

My husband and I will miss you. I listened to you before college, and since we returned to East Texas. It's gonna be a loss to ET radio.

How very kind of you to say, really....thank you so much for those nice thoughts.

Yeah, I guess I never made it a secret that Chapman was a HUGE influence. I grew up in Dallas listening to him on KLIF, and then KVIL. Why not copy the best, huh? Shamefully so in my case some would say.

And ET radio won't suffer....it's like Bill Cosby said to his son, "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out. And make another one that looks just like you!"

I hope there's still a long line of good people waiting to get into radio around here.

Oh, yes. That staff I grew up as a teenager listening to these people do bring back a lot of memories. Bill, you have always been a great asset to East Texas radio as a whole. I remember back in 1985 (though we never knew each other then, but have heard of you) that I was a communications major at Kilgore College and our broadcasting/journalism group came to this seminar at UT Tyler. You were the featured speaker at that time and I really admired your professionalism in what you did in this field.

I wonder if anyone ever approached to you that you look like Phil Collins (minus the accent). I figured that back then you were a dead ringer of him.

But other than that, it's been a great ride for you in East Texas, Bill. No matter what others say, you're still a legend. I wish you the best in other avenues of life and whereever you are, we'll be hearing from you!
______________

Agreed that Bill created a most interesting era at two Tyler stations. His departure will create a notable vacuum in KDOK's market presence. Any word on what the station plans to do in filling early mornings.

Again, thanks so much for the kind words. The really do mean a lot to me!

Yep, I still look like Phil Collins....and say "hi" to Kevin Kelley at KTPB for me if you see him. For my money, his Saturday night jazz get together is still the best radio show in ET.

"Creating an interesting era" is probably the best compliment anyone could receive. Just tried to have a little fun for the last 25 years.

By the way, Paul Berry moves back to mornings on KDOK. Like I told everybody on the air, I've just been keeping his chair warm the last 3 years here.

Hate leaving, but I'm looking forward to living in upstate Washington for the next few years...you guys take care, OK?

All the best,

B.

Re: great staff

Hey Bill! Best of luck to you in your new venture! I hate to see you leaving the East Texas airwaves, but I'm sure our paths will cross again. They always do in this business! HAHA

All the best to you and yours and have fun in WA. Thanks for the memories! Long live Hiney Wine...... :)
______________
Failure to plan on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.

Re: great staff

Thanks Jeff...thanks to all!

Hiney Wine, indeed...the genius of Terry Dorsey. I just borrowed it for awhile.

We're in San Francsico right now, getting ready to do the Highway 101 drive up the West coast and on to Washington.

I promise to keep in touch!
