This has to be the longest farewell in Memphis radio history... seems like it was stretched out all month.
The day has finally arrived. I have just enough time to check my boards before heading out and I just wanted to end with a few words.
Guys, I know I've been just a small part time cog in a big radio wheel here, but you guys - all of you - made it seem really big. Thanks for the good times! Hope our paths cross again somewhere.
I wanna leave you all with one thought. Regardless the amount of competition between the various groups here, remember that you are all brothers in radio. I leave friends at FM 100, Kix 106, WRVR and folks I know at other stations in the various groups. There's no reason why all of you can't be friends, or at least have a mutual respect for one another... from D&Z at The Maxx to the youngest board op at Flinn. This is a close market, and regardless of anything ever printed on this board... and I really mean this... you guys are the most professional bunch I've ever met.
Certainly there's a healthy aire of competition among the various AC'ish formats sharing demos... Kix, WRVR, WMC-FM, WMBZ... but you guys would all do well and probably enjoy the experience if you'd all get together for a few beers one day and get to know one another. You don't have to share secrets... just enjoy each other's company for one day. Pick a location downtown and coordinate it! Radio is like a family and a damn small one at that. The Memphis family is great and I'm humbled to have been a part of it for the last 5 1/2 years.
This is simply the best radio market I've worked in. You guys are all great and I wish you nothing but success wherever you go. In short, THANK YOU MEMPHIS! I love ya!
Please keep in touch.
