I'm graduating in a week (from URI, I never went to Brown, long story maybe another time) and since WBRU is a student run station I'm now looking for a radio gig that actually pays money.

Listen to my aircheck, waddya think? I'm looking at that new philly station as my #1 dream station, but who knows?

It's still a work in progress, so any advice is cool.

also if you're interested, the two older revision of the aircheck

I have advice for you. Get a job someplace sunny and warm. It's easier to be a broke DJ when you've got half naked women to look at.

Keep lots of Money in the bank too. You will need it when you get fired at a moments notice and are locked out of the building without an honest explanation.

and MOST importantly...don't pay attention to anyone on Radio-Info! ;D

Donni I think Skynet & rapking are kidding although the bouncing around America might be on target. I'm no judge of alternative radio but you're more polished than most coming out of WBRU. I assume you want to work some form of rock. You're going to have to move unless you get lucky & if you get lucky,it will be lucky weekends around here. Your closest bets would be Northern New England for now. Maybe Cape Cod.

I was always offered jobs in Vermont. It seems to be an easy market to get into if you want it. But of course that goes against my Sunny and Warm advice.

Maybe you could post on the Northern NE board to see if there are any openings up there. You could just take a road trip with airchecks & visit stations. That's what I did long ago. At least in your case, they're actual airchecks. Mine were auditions, being that it was my first job I was looking for. It did work, although nowadays you might have a more difficult time finding someone to meet with you if you show up out of the blue.

... speaking of philadelphia, you probably already know this but two 'BRU personalities ended up here at the late Y100: Ben Harvey and Electra.

Electra was good. I could never understand Harvey moving ahead in leaps and bounds. From BRU to Philly to NY. Now he's on some gay cable channel. He must have been a master at networking.

Just curious, but I always assumed that all the WBRU air staff were Brown U. students. Is that not so?

Yeah Donni's never really explained that one, but he sounds good & has a good sense of humor. I'd parlay this into as much attention as he can & turn it into a job somewhere.

The WBRU air staff is all Brown students...except for me. I started working at BRU when I was 17. I worked in the promo
department. I've wanted to work at BRU since I was a little kid, so when I lucked out and got in the promo department, I made sure that every single freakin second I was there I worked my ass off. Then it came down to, "well, we better give him overnights or something, because he's pretty much earned it, he'll never go on the air, or get paid during school vacations, but at least he'll be on the air, sort of" So again, I worked my ass off, and guilt tripped them into letting me go on the air during the day, and the rest is pretty much history.
