So Magic tweaked!

Now this may be old news, but I noticed that Magic 106.7 is now using the moniker "Today's Hits and Yesterdays Favorites!" I noticed that they are playing more "harder" stuff also than their "soft" image that they have been known for forever so long. I even heard them play Whitesnake's "Here We Go Again" a week and a half ago! Something that Mix hasn't even touched in their regular programming.

So what do they sound like now? A lighter version of Mix no less. What are your thoughts on this?

they never played "Whitesnake" back in the day when they were out. I could see them playing "Is This Love" by Whitesnake but not (Here We Go)
They are trying to lose their audience.
They even play "Addictive To Love" by ?- Robert Palmer
"Living on a Prayer" Bon Jovie
They never played that stuff back in the day
They should disregard that music and let WAAF or WZLX play that
All is what I will leave you with is, I don't know. Program Management knows more than me and what they want.

If I was the Assistant Program Director for Magic 106.7, I would allow two/& a half Genres on the station
NEW (AC)
and
NEW (Urban AC)
with some NICE NEW (Love Songs/Slow Jams) NICE NEW Country Music.
But like I said before, Program Management knows more. Not me
As long as they don't play Michele Branch music, I'll still listen. They are still a great station, with some of the BEST Radio Hosts (Nancy Quill, and Dan Justin) are my favorites.

AGAIN???? We know what you'd do. PLEASE stop telling us. And yes, program management does know more than you. More than me, I bet...and more than a lot of people. Magic has been a ratings and billing success in Boston for a very long time. But just STOP sounding like Radio Disney repeating the same thing 130 times a week.

33 times a week...
With 19 hours a weekday (7-mid Bedtime Magic is excepted) that's 95 hours a week. Add 47 for the weekend (1 hour of PA programs)
Gives us 142 hours a week making a 4.5 hour rotation. That's pretty good. Not as painful as other stations.
I've often wondered why agencies love cume as opposed to TSL. Wouldn't you want 50,000 people who listen 5 or 6 hours a day than 80,000 who listen for 10 minutes and tune out? The old strategy of trying to minimize tuneout factors just enough to earn quarter hour seems counter productive. Programming for TSL increases listener loyalty and satisfaction. What am I missing?

That would be ALL dayparts. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The powers come up 5x per day, basically with about 5 hours separation.

"I'm not hurting anyone ,, why'z everybody always pickin' on me?? " ???

"Boston NEED Urban AC !! "

Boston HAS Urban AC, Classic Soul, Disco, Dance, R&B, Funk, Smooth Jazz................if YOU have Sirius/XM.  Instead of complaining, petitioning, or suggesting music to Magic 106.7 and other stations who only care about info from a little electronic device, get Sirius/XM.  In the car, in the office, or at home, it's the BEST radio in Boston, or wherever you listen. :)  And for local radio it's 1030 WBZ and 630 WPRO for me.

Ok.
Earth Wind and Fire, a Famous group. Magic 106.7 plays some of their music. They have New Music. Guess what charts it's on? Yup, you guessed it. Urban AC (FM QB)
Who will play that song?
Magic 106.7 or Mix 104.1?
That song sounds ok. Not bad at all
I'm hoping one of those stations play it

While I love EWF, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for that single to cross over and hit high enough for Mix or especially Magic to play it.
And even if it does, that doesn't mean Boston need(s) an Urban AC.
And to the other poster who mentioned Duran Duran, it actually makes sense to me...every woman 35-45 I've ever met has a thing for that group. It must have tested well.
