So many days off on Mostly News 106.7

I am a regular listener to Mostly News 106.7 when they are in news mode and notice that some of the regular staff are off a lot. Catching morning or pm drive it is usually consistent to hear the regular teams in place but middays seem to have John or Cheryl solo at least once or twice a week. Yesterday i was surprised to hear Chuck Roberts co anchoring with Cheryl when it has usually been the plan to have middays or afternoons solo when one of the regulars off. I dont listen to mornings because of my work schedules very often but Michelle and Andy has always been there so i do not know how they handle off days in mornings. Am I to assume that the morning team full time while all other anchors are part time. Ever since the weekend morning fiasco in programming and the fact Tech sports eats up air time causing the PD to leave i am happy to hear that when the station is in news mode it is still good to listen to. Why would you have 24 hour news on your logo and do 3 hours of crap weekend mornings. The woman in my life works at a burger king with several signs claiming 24 hours but they close for over an hour at 3am so I guess in 2012 that 24 hours a day does not really mean 24 hours a day.

Jackie Howard inherited the Cumulus "use it or lose it" vacation policy, so staffers are having to take their days off before December is over, and she's doing her best to fill the holes. (Andy will be off a day or two next week as well as Greg) For the record, it's now five hours of weekend morning crap... but you can get a really good deal on fish oil.

All stations have to do some kind of "community" broadcasting for their COL. Usually I hear it between 5 to 7 AM Sunday mornings. So if you are going to apply take that into account, there really is not a "ALL" anything commercial station in the US. CBS which IMHO runs some of best all news radio operations in the country, has the Bears on WBBM and Yankees on WCBS. Sports or snake oil it is still revenue.

106.7 has tried, as much as it's possible, to work with the infomercial people to format the shows so there are regular news, traffic and weather breaks within the programs or at least at the top of every hour on Saturday and Sunday morning. It's a reasonable compromise given that the situation isn't likely to change. Both days 5a-10a are sold out.

Just wait. There will be live infomercials with a heavy dash of news mixed in - much like Eric Erickson's drive time show on WSB. In this case, the news can present the problems facing you, and the infomercial will tell you about the product that will solve the problems facing you.

This can easily work with weather (It's always there.) and even traffic (You KNOW it's always there!).

And then there's drugs... ::)

It could add a new twist to the phrase "fair and balanced". Think it qualifies as a format of the future? Maybe maybe...

Follow the money.

Using the news as a reverse product placement... a thought I hope never occurs to anyone named Dickey. It may be a format of the future but I know a lot of people who will never be around to make it happen...
