SO MANY UNORIGINAL CHR HITS

I kind of feel like this thread has gotten off on a tangent though - the purpose was supposed to be a discussion of the fact that so many current CHR hits are rehashes of older songs (passed off as new songs, since most of the teen audience is unfamiliar with them)

This includes Chris Brown/She Ain't You, Lupe Fiasco/The Show Goes On, Jason DeRulo/Don't Wanna Go Home, Coldplay/Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (although that one doesn't sound as blatant to me), Kesha/Take It Off, Black Eyed Peas/The Time, etc.

Those of us who are in know may think its unoriginal or a rip off of an older song- and we are probably outside of or close to exiting the target demographic of CHR. For those within the target demographic, especially teens, I don't know if its necessarily a bad thing that sampling is a common practice. Maybe somewhere a 13 year old is hearing Chris Brown's "She Ain't You" and one of his/her parents says "you know thats a sample of an old Michael Jackson song" and the kid discovers Michael Jackson, when he might not otherwise have discovered his music or thought it was no longer relevant in 2011 ( MJ might be the worst possible example here- as his music has endured and his passing brought him back into the limelight, but you know what I mean)

Nearly died when I heard that Chris Brown song. It least SWV harmonized well the sample. Janet Jackson gidn't even know that "Ventura Highway" intro was a sample by America when she recorded her sample hit. Looks like were heading back to the 90's to early millenium with what's starting to come out again. Your right....LCD= OPP.

Actually, Janet Jackson is a fan of the band America and was well aware that she sampled "Ventura Highway." Also, if you listen to "Let's Wait a While," it has some similar chord and rhythm structures of America's "Daisy Jane."

Chris Brown is a wanabe Michael Jackson who beats women. I still can't believe CHR is giving this guy a chance based on that.

The world is black and white. Chris Brown is bad. He should never receive radio airplay again. Neither should a slew of other artists who have had trouble with drugs, alcohol, anger, adultery, domestic violence, etc-- and the airwaves sit empty...

Nobody really cares if an artist has a drug or alcohol problem, or if they cheat on their spouse, or tells people to get out of their face when they want to go shopping. NOBODY in their right minds should EVER tolerate men hitting women AT ALL, NO EXCUSES. The fact that Brown had the nerve to put his hand on that woman leaves me absolutely no sympathy for Brown nor does he deserve ANY success or awards at this point. I sure love how people are sweeping this under the rug.

The world isn't so black and white.
