So, MIKE FM. Does anyone really know...

change it for those who can't get Mix 104.1 up north, and west of the city

Mix 104.1 is great!!!

Don't get me wrong, I do listen to most stations here 92.9, 93.7, 96.9, 97.7, 98.5, 99.1, 100.7, 101.7, 103.3, 105.7, 106.7, KISS 108, 590am, 680am, 850am, 1030am, 1090am, and 1430am. Don't get me wrong, I do listen to most Boston stations.
I'm not crazy over Rock and Roll music, however I still listen to stations such as 92.9, 97.7, and 100.7 just to listen for something different for a good minute. I don't like each, but it's a difference for me.

There's not enough Urban AC stations or Rhythmic AC stations. Although Mix 104.1 seems like to be both HOT AC/Rhythmic AC

Sorry for those who don't like my ideas. I don't mean no harm to anyone. It's just ideas. Radio Program Management knows what they want, not me. All I do is give ideas.

@WCOZBoston, I've been thinking the last few days. Your idea was great (Why not simply call it Eagle 93.7) some people might be sad because they remember Vinnie Peruzzi. He was on there around mid 90s until his passing few years ago.
It might be better to use ??? ("Kozi 93.7", or "93.7 The Point") They should do that and change their format to AC/HOT AC, and as I mentioned before, use some service such as Dial-Global, and some local radio host, and some Syndicated Weekend programs like Jim Brickman and Walt Baby Love

Now I would welcome radio announcers on Mike-FM if they added a request line too. That would make the station all that much more fun!

A Request Line, and they actually PLAYED the requests?

So, when are these Hosts to Be Named Later...showing up?

really...does anyone know whats going on when with MIKE FM and their Live Hosts?

are they staying variety? Entercom's website lists Boston as one of their markets with a Classic Rock Station.

?

Wouldn't be surprised if they are totally classic rock to go up against wzlx!! With so many jack fms disapearing.

in a way that'd be cool, especially if they brought back "Eagle" to their name "Eagle 93.7"

But then, another Rock and Roll station?

Program Management Personel knows what they want to do, not me.

In any way, I hope they can be sucessfull at what they do.

LAURO, I hear ya! Too much rock. I have felt that way for years about the music on Boston radio. Mike FM, just a classic rock station that decides to be adventurous sometimes, that's what I would call it. Instead of We Play Everything, they should say Classic Rock and More. Honestly, when Mike FM first came to Boston, I thought it would make OTHER stations become more adventurous. Wrong. They sound the same, if not more boring. I thought Mike FM would play songs other stations never played. Wrong again. Most songs Mike plays can be heard on other stations, so no big deal there. But you know the drill, if it gets the ratings, that's all they care about. So, us fans of Rhythmic AC and Urban AC need to find another place to hear it. I hear it online from You Tube, from out of town stations, and some from 103.3 WODS. Other than WODS, I really don't have a favorite music station. Mike FM does not even come in well in the Providence area, but I am not missing much anyway so it doesn't matter. My other favorites are 630 WPRO for local talk, and 1030 WBZ.

It has done a very select few country songs like G. Brooks Friends in Low Places, J Cash's Ring of Fire; maybe they play recent stuff by Darius Rucker. Maybe something like Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood, or the 'crossover' All Summer Long by Kid Rock, but generally, not much country. The We Play Everything slogan means they have a slightly wider playlist/range than one would expect but
I doubt they'd play Muddy Waters, Percy Faith, Andrea Bocelli, Dead Kennedys, etc.

If they wanted to raise an eyebrow perhaps they could play Muddy's You Need Love back to back with the Led Zep song that plagiarized it, Whole Lotta Love. People would say, oh, that's where that song orig came from.

Or maybe Dick James Theme From Robin Hood, later spoofed by Monty Python as Dennis Moore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKkvA-5ncuk
(produced by George Martin??)

So, us fans of Rhythmic AC and Urban AC need to find another place to hear it.

OK...then ANY Rock,Classic Rock etc would be too much.

Too many talk stations...too many Classic Hits (oldies) stations...too much sports...there are just so many formats that make sense from a business standpoint for companies.

Too many stations...period?

How about Rythmic and Urban Classic Sports Talk?

I still think it would be a good move to change to AC or HOT AC. Maybe during the day (Midnight-6pm=Use a service
"Dial-Global AC or HOT AC format).
And from 6pm-Midnight Have a local host, maybe host a Soft Music Type format (Not too soft, not too hard) still remain with the AC/HOT AC format, but and in this case, focus on (New) Urban AC that Mix 104.1 or Magic 106.7 won't play such as New Freddie Jackson "I Don't Want To Go", or "I Smile" by Kirk Franklyn, "What I Miss The Most" by Ronald Isley, "Sometimes I Cry" by: Eric Benet, and new Charlie Wilson music. This would also be great considering Boston don't have a Urban AC station. I'm not saying change to Urban AC, I'm just saying, focus more on New Urban AC music that other stations wouldn't play. It would also be good for people living outside the city who can't get those two pirate radio stations (101.3 and 106.1) that can be only heard in Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury
And on weekend use the Dial-Global AC or HOT AC format almost 24 Hours, along with some Weekend Syndicated shows such as Jim Brickman, Walt Baby Love, and Randy Jackson to name a few.
Maybe call it "Eagle 93.7", or "93.7 The Point" , or "Kozi 93.7".
I think that would be a good idea, because when you look at Ratings, (In most cities) most times, one of the top three formats are either AC or HOT AC. (and CHR)
Therefore I think they should do this. This would be a great idea if they plan to add hosts to their station. For those who like Rock and Roll music, HOT AC plays Rock and Roll music. AC is starting to play Rock and Roll music as well.

another idea, as I expressed before and as Radiojay1 said, we have to listen elsewhere to listen to Rhythmic AC, and Urban AC.
That's not fair.
It's very sad how so fast without warning how they took Star 93.7 away so fast. If it didn't work out good, they programmed it the wrong way. There are so many (and were, as well as now) many good radio programs they could've put on their station such as "Keith Sweat Hotel" on weeknights, "Walt Baby Love" on weekends, "Jamn Africa" , and "Randy Jackson Hitlist" to name a few. They could've program it much better. A lot of W I L D listenners tuned to "Star 93.7" at night when W I L D went off the air because they were a second choice because they were very much simular to W I L D
So another idea was why they don't try to change it to "Funkytown 93.7" maybe they can put "Steve Harvey on weekday mornings, Funkytown Music midday with some (Urban AC-2 Minute Features such as News on the top of hour and 2 minute entertainment features such as "Hollywood Live with Tanya Hart"), Weekday afternoons "Doug Banks" and Kim Iverson on weeknights, her show is AC/HOT AC. These days HOT AC plays some Rhythmic hits such as Bruno Marz, and Kate Perry. And on weekends have some Syndicated shows such as Jim Brickman, Walt Baby Love, Jamn Africa, and Randy Jackson to name a few.
:'(
these are just ideas.
It might not be done, but it's just ideas

Another one I had was, like some of you suggested, and would love.
We could use another "Sports Talk Station. Why not put it on 93.7?
Maybe call it "93.7 The Ticket" WEEI FM. On Weekdays put on Dennis and Callahan, and the rest of the day put on "Sporting News Radio"
Put all the games on both 850am and 93.7, (On 93.7, following Sporting News Radio)
On the weekends put all local shows on both 850am and 93.7, and the rest of the day put the games on both stations, then on 93.7 put on "Sporting News Radio"

I know you all going get mad, but I'm just giving ideas. That is what this site is used for, to talk about radio.

i hear all your ideas and there good ones but i doubt they will do it!! they like the same old tired boring formats and dont think we deserve a fresh look!!

Entercom is happy with WMKK as it is. Low budget, big profits, pleasing advertisers and listeners
in a good demo. It's actually doing so good as to allow them to hire DJs--maybe for just morning
and aft. drive, though as I've said if this gives them lower ratings they'd pull the plug (...on
the DJs, not the format).

WEEI/Entercom would not want to dilute their sports by, say, putting Sporting News Radio on 93.7.
Their main focus is the mostly local talk of WEEI. If anything perhaps in the future they could
simulcast or move EEI to 93.7, but doing what you say (SNR after D&C) or putting, say, ESPN
after D&C on a "Ticket" would be something they wouldn't want. As said before, local hosts are
key. People want to talk Red Sox, Pats, C's, Bruins, etc. If they run national stuff at all it's
overnight or weekends when a slot needs to be filled. I would imagine you could hope for this scenario if you really like SNR (and again, a theory)

1) Clear Channel holds on to cons. talk on 1200 till the 2012 election but then decided it isn't
working. Since they dist. Fox Sports Talk, they could grab FSR from there: Fox Sports 1200
2) With FSR taken from them, Sports Hub would put SNR back on nights/weekends. But again
the focus is local, local, local.

If there's a big fire in Boston or some other local event do you want Ch 4 to be running CBS
or their own local news?

Local, local, local.

As much as I wouldn't mind at least Sox games getting on 93.7, it doesn't look like it'll happen.
(By the way someone at work got a Brookstone "Ipod dock" thingy for $150 and they are rebroadcasting WEEI/Red Sox to a boombox type device using a 900 MHz signal. Nothing I could
pick up on a Walkman, though. The adv. of this is the signal can go through walls etc!

http://www.brookstone.com/sl/product/2389-weather-resistant-indoor-outdoor-wireless-speaker.html

>>Up to a 150-ft. range! 900MHz wireless technology transmits signals even through walls, floors and ceilings. And with no tuning—ever.

Listening lately (past couple of days) MIKE FM doesn't seem to be so heavy on Classic Rock, with an occasional "other" song thrown in. More of a Variety?

Honestly, I don't think there's any better format for them to try - flipping to Hot AC would be a disaster, since Mix 104.1 covers both the Modern AC and Rhythmic AC sides of the format (leaving no room for competition) - Boston doesn't have the ethnic makeup to support an Urban AC, and all the other formats are covered except Country I guess, which does terribly in that market

I guess they could try Gen X radio, but I can't see that getting higher ratings than the format they have now

Only thing else I can think of is trying to compete with Kiss 108 from the Hot AC side, and setting up a CHR format similar to 92-Pro FM - but it seems extremely risky since Matty etc. are legends that have been around for decades
