'Golden Voice' Ted Williams Bails on Rehab

Ted Williams -- the homeless man with the "Golden Voice" -- has left rehab against medical advice, less than two weeks after checking in for drug and alcohol dependency ... TMZ has learned.

Our sources say Ted -- who decided to go to rehab earlier this month after a taping of the Dr. Phil show -- left the Origins Recovery Center in South Texas moments ago and is on his way to the airport.

Ted's girlfriend is currently in rehab at the Safe Harbor facility in Costa Mesa, California.
 
Meanwhile, thousands - maybe TENS of thousands of others in our industry who chose to be responsible are still struggling to find work. And many are just one unemployment check away from being out on the street.
 
The sad thing is a lot of people in our business have compassion for people like Ted and want(ed) him to succeed. Each of us is flawed, but the worker-bees who are grunting it out may now view this guy as wasting a precious gift and a once in a lifetime opportunity.
 
I had a bad feeling this was going to happen...too much reality too soon...
 
It's a strange thing, the way humans are wired.. I have a brother in a similar situation, almost like something in their DNA or neurological makeup won't allow them to get off the streets and substance abuse. The sad thing is like others in this situation, they KNOW that their lifestyle is wrong and self-destructive, yet they can't move away from it.

I read on another comment board, some posters lashing out calling Mr. Williams a fraud, fake, or somehow that he was dishonest in his public want to lead a new life, given this opportunity. Unlike some, I do believe he was being honest in his statements, as nobody WANTS to be homeless or a substance abuser.

Whether his makeup will allow himself to stay away from his old, longtime life, remains to be seen. I doubt however the Today show or that jackass Dr. Phil will be following up because it wouldn't be a 'feel good' story now would it?
 
Our nation, our civilization is making some progress in dealing with this type of situation, but we need to do better. Many of us grew up under the influence of churches that taught us this kind of behavior is just a personal choice and those who behave this way choose sin. To suggest to some of the pastors that I have had that maybe someone's DNA is hard-wired and makes them much more captive to habit-forming drugs was met with loud and persistent denial.

Thank goodness for Betty Ford and for Rosalynn Carter who have helped us recognize that it is o.k. to talk about the fact that our Uncle Charlie has a problem and we need to help him.... find help. They have made it easier for any one of US to admit we have a problem... and that it is O.K. to get honest with ourselves about the problem.

Looks like Ted has a problems accepting help. Which is common for people who need help. He is left with HIS problem. WE are left to wonder... What CAN we do? What SHOULD we do? What MUST we do?
 
Well, he got paid, and well, for the Kraft spot. My VO coach knows Ted's agent. It was well above a national campaign fee. Six figures. Ted also got paid for every TV appearance; Today Show, Insider, etc. I'm told The Insider was six figures. Why? Flava of the day. So, Ted now has plenty $$$. Hopefully it's being taken care of properly. He's allegedly in a sober living house in L.A. We'll see where it goes from here.
