So...no new tower for Savannah?

A couple of years ago, Richland towers proposed building a 1600" candelabra off Ft. Argyle Rd, next to the WJCL stick. At one point, Richland even had a sign on that site, announcing the coming tower.

Browsing Richland's website, no mention of it has been made. I presume the project is dead? Will (can) the existing Savannah sticks support DTV, ENG & FM? I know upgrades were made at WTGS, and WTOC has DTV side mounted, but that tower (and WJCL's) are extremely old. Plus, with WGSA looking to move DTV closer to town, wouldn't it make sense to build a new tower?

Remember this is radio (and TV). Logic and sense have nothing to do with it.

When you say old...how old do you mean? I'm just not aware how old the sticks are in west Chatham.

I would assume (just a guess) that some of the towers there are close to 30 years old...which is pretty old for being close to the coast and getting battered by a few hurricanes.

I believe WJCL's is the oldest, dating back to it's signon in the early 70's. Next would be WTOC's, which I presume was built in the early 80's. WTGS is the new kid on the block, built in the late 80's-early 90's. I'm not taking WSAV into account, but that one looks as if it was built in the 80's.

The WTGS tower is in the process of being beefed up to handle the load of all the new antennae put on there. It is rumored that the WJCL tower will soon be done as well. I know that one of the other TV towers in west Chatham will probably be replaced in the next couple of years as everyone is trying to meet the new OSHA tower standards okayed by the FCC and FAA.
