So now what for WPSR 90.7/Evansville?

Well, with the shocking news of a likely WUEV sale, we ask, what about WPSR? People havbe mentioned here that the Vanderbergh School District is in trouble finacially and might be looking to sell 90.7 themselves.

That would be a horrible scenerio. Only one non com actually serving Evansville and that would be WNIN, which could be quite left at times(it is a NPR station).

Then again, if WUEV and WPSR aren't safe, then neither is WDKS JEFF WALKER, contrary to your "little bet".
______________

Left? They are on the left side of the dial. But seriously, let's not forget about Western Public Radio (89.5). They put a city grade over the metro and is a far better public radio station than WNIN. Even though WPR's emphasis is Western Kentucky, the programming is less uptight and quite diverse. Let me add a shameless plug for locally produced "Soul Serenade" and Saturday Night jazz programming as well as syndicated "American Roots" among others. WNIN could own Evansville if they attempted something resembling local programming. But the consultants say otherwise.

The fate of WUEV is a concern. It's a cool sounding radio station and it would be sad to see 91.5 become an affiliate of a Christian Network whose local identity would be the Top of the Hour ID and the occasional underwriter. Speaking of WUEV, a poster below said their facilities were less than decent. I have to disagree. WUEV's control room was better than the facilities where I recently worked; and it is one of the top billing station in this area.

WPSR (or as it’s lovingly called "The Pisser") is a neat station as well. WPSR is pure student radio but I listen from time to time. Outside of student time, it's the only "all eighties" station we have in these parts.

...what little bet.

The radio business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Having not seen the control rooms of any of the commerical stations in Evansville, I can't take issue with that, and I don't doubt it.

I'm sure you're right...guess it's time for me to start looking for a job. Got any leads?

The EVSC has begun building (and almost finished with), it's new Technical High School facility (which can be seen at www.evsc.k12.in.us). WPSR will be moving to the new facility and begin broadcasting eclectic and diverse programming twenty-four hours a day. They are hoping to pick up some public radio programs as well, to add to their music variety. I've heard that they plan on dumping the 80's mix and adding more framed music/time segments once the tech school is completed.

> For a long time, some area business people have been encouraging EVSC to lease 90.7 to USI when not doing their Central High School located programming from 3:pm to 7:30am on weekdays.. That was when WPSR was just running during the school year and during those hours...Of course Mr.Hensley challenged all non-com renewals last year in Indiana based on alot of those High School stations not running a full time format.... WPSR, then went 24/7 during the school year with live shows and automation.... I have not heard any other progress on that scanario, since.... "Skip"
