So The Cars' Ric Ocasek Died... Where Are You ZLX?

I think it's safe to say that the former owners of WZLX would have had played wall-to-wall Cars when the news of Ric Ocasek's passing was made public. Heck, even Q104.3 in New York went all Cars for a while starting at 8:20 p.m. ZLX? From what I can tell, only one Cars song right at 9:00. Come on, iHeart!

Rant over...

Nooooo!! Loved him and his music. He will be missed big time, with his brilliant new wave songs like 'You Might Think', 'Just What I Needed' and 'Let's Go'. RIP!

Ironic because just a few weeks ago Tim McGraw released his own version of The Car's hit "Drive"

I listened to it, and he stays pretty true to the original, but I was surprised to see that Ocasek wrote the song by himself. In fact most of the hits were written by Ric alone. But he didn't sing lead on Drive. Lead singer was the bass player, Ben Orr, who died almost 20 years ago. He sang lead on a handful of hits, including Just What I Needed. Ben was the one with the rock star voice and the rock star look. The band itself has been touring with a few original members, but with Todd Rundgren doing vocals. Ric apparently was happy to be retired and off the road for the last 20 or so years.

He had branched out into art in his later years

I have heard coast to coast am playing his music a lot lately during the bumper music part.

Have to say I never even considered WZLX for a tribute. That's how little the station registers for me in the Boston radio market.
Meanwhile WERS has done a stellar job honoring Ocasek online and onair.

This is in addition to the mentions immediately following his passing.
