so what ever became of 106.7 ?

It's Secret Radio that Controls Your Mind!

The NEW 106.7! ::)

It's supposed to be back on next month, provided that there aren't any equipment snafus before then.

It is a real disappointment that three major market signals are now broadcasting programming that should be on AM . (98.3,101.5, 106.7) Next there will be a Rebel flag at Point State Park. Then Primanti's gets replaced by Hooters.

I heard them testing the other night with (and I am NOT making this up...)

Gregorian Chant!

The chanting stopped every 15 minutes or so to announce that WAOB
"is conducting engineering tests, sponsored by Lightner Electric".

You can have a sponsor for your engineering tests? I wouldn't have thought
that was legal.

"Sponsored by" is also somewhat questionable language for a station that changed its license status from commercial to noncommercial.

Heard the same thing. I believe sponsored equipment tests are against FCC rules regardless of whether or not the
license is non-commercial.

I still just completely CANNOT wrap my mind around the whole thing. Goodbye to a Pittsburgh landmark, for lack of a better term, hello to another station off my presets.

I'm thinking we should dump DVE, Y108, and 3WS while we're at it...they're doing WAY too well and everyone is comfortable with them, so let's blow that s*** up!

Not for profits should not be able to buy commercial FM stations. They are given the lower end of the dial for just that reason. Also most of the new low power FMs that come along will be for non profit use.

To hear Sheridan tell it, they tried earnestly to find a minority buyer that would keep WAMO and the Urban format
intact. No one had the money, or was able to borrow it.

I imagine the owners of 106.7 feel they answer to a higher power than the FCC.

That's Lightner Electronics, based in Chambersburg, PA. They're pretty much THE go-to place for studio buildouts anymore. Station engineers don't do that stuff much these days.

101.5 has been broadcasting religious programming since it first went on the air. They haven't done anything else. Just one reason why Salem wanted it so badly.
