So... What happened to Mojo?

I don't listen to WZYP in the mornings much because I've always thought the Mojo radio show was boring but I flipped it over there earlier this week and Mojo was gone, and has been gone all week. I didn't get to listen long so I dunno what the new guys name is on there but he called it the "ZYP morning show" (how creative ::)) this morning. Is he just filling in for Mojo, or has Mojo left WZYP?

As of monday Rock 99 has a new morning program titled, the "Mojo Radio Show." It took over from the fill in time that Jason Mack was doing after WZRR dropped John Boy and Billy.

I am totally glad he is gone, he got on my effing nerves! I said just last week that is was time for a change! I would turn it and listen to country some mornings because I was just wanted to hear music not a bunch of bullshit. Anyways good riddance! Wooooo Hooooo!

This thread just made my day. Sorry fans but it was a downright crummy show.

Good thing us morning guys don't depend on you for ratings. ZYP carries a 7.5 in the latest 12+ and has been doing well for a number of years w/Mojo. I don't really know the guy, other than exchanging a few emails and I don't think I've heard the show but the numbers don't lie! Not to mention the THOUSANDS of bikes Mojo collected for kids during the holidays over the years. Was he there six or seven years? I think that's great stability for ZYP. Maybe you would rather ZYP bring in a more polished syndicated show? It's a perfect market for shows to grow their legs then move to their next challenge.

I say congrats to Mojo and his team and to all you Haters! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxxPLDZnqwA ;D

So that's why he hasn't appeared on WAAY 31's weekday morning newscast lately. Someone from 93.3 The Wolf was on instead of Mojo earlier in the week.

Maybe it was a good show at one time but lately it had become very stale ... every break started the same ("104 point 3, Zeeeeeee YP, good morning and wellllllllcome to the Mojo Radio Show"), lame talk topics pulled straight off the national prep sites (how about some local stuff?), annoying sidekicks who contributed almost nothing, and so on. Anybody can collect bikes for kids but it takes a real thinker to not let a morning show fall into the heap of hundreds of other "copy-and-paste" vanilla morning shows.

I have to totally 100% agree with you. The show might have been good a few years ago but for several years now it has just been the same ol' boring stuff day in and day out. I stopped listening a long time ago. Every single break was the same thing. Oh, and don't forget the "see, wuh had happen wuz..." Every break! Come on... I'll give him credit that the length of time he was with ZYP is good because jocks never seem to last long there, but I hate it when people bring up the bikes or bust thing that he did every year and give him all the credit for it, and make him sound like the greatest guy in the world! Any jock could do that at any time on any station, and many of them have done the same or similar things on other stations in many other markets. That was nothing new or original and I'm willing to bet that the new morning guy will be doing the same thing this year, (or something similar) for the kids. It wasn't just a Mojo thing. They needed something new and they got it. Now if they could just stop playing the BS, and play all the real current hits, (Like a real Top 40 station) they'd be set!

So..RollTide and whitfm..please tell us all...what is the name of the amazing, compelling, and all knowing shows that the two of you host.

I retired from radio several years ago. My point (and opinion which I am entitled to and apparently share with many others) is that the show had become very bland and repetitive over the past couple of years and collecting bikes for kids every year (which is a great thing, don't get me wrong) doesn't excuse that. The ratings were descent only because ZYP has always been the only thing closest to CHR in town so listeners of that format didn't really have any other choice. Even now that Star 99.1 is almost in direct competition with ZYP, their syndicated morning show isn't really any better. A lot of times when you've been at the same station for so long (especially one that doesn't ever do anything new or exciting like ZYP) you start to settle into a pattern which leads to repetitiveness and things get stale. I am glad that there is finally something new and different going on at ZYP and I hope that the improvements continue because there is definitely still room for much more. I am also glad to hear that there was no firing going on at cumulus because I don't wish that on anyone, especially in these times, so congrats to mojo for moving on to bigger things. I just hope the show becomes good and fresh (like it used to be) at its new home.

BTW, I haven't had the opportunity to really listen for any length of time to the new guy on ZYP mornings. How is he sounding to you guys, and does anyone know anything about him or where he came from?

I was the program director of a Hot AC station for four years before I left of my own decision to pursue a new challenge. However, the things that RollTide and I noted in our posts aren't special industry secrets or something that a person would have to be particularly qualified to say. It's just common sense. The only thing regular listeners have to go off of is their own common sense -- and they voted based solely on that. Hopefully it's a turning point, and let me echo RollTide's happiness with there being no firing over this situation.

It just never seems to fail that when you are trying to do something good and good things happen to you....the negs all seem to come out and start trying to tear ya down. Ripping on someone because they do charity work?? Because they use their position to help people out?? Seriously.

Ugh... Did you really read the posts? If not please go back and read them again and pay close attention to the point trying to be made, and that is this: Collecting bikes every year for kids has absolutely nothing to do with how well the show itself sounded, was entertaining, or how well it was put together and so on and so on. No one is bashing anyone for doing charity work. It was a wonderful thing that he collected bikes for needy children every year. I just hate it when people bring it up in defense of how good or bad the SHOW was because it shouldn't have anything to do with it because any jock at any station can do that. How entertaining was the SHOW every morning, not how much charity work was done for the community. Those are two completely different things.

Does this board has sock drawers for the puppets to hide in? ::)

You just took 'Air Child' so seriously, RT, not that I'm saying you're a sock. ;)
