So What really happend???

Colonel, out of all of those, you and I worked togther at KHYS & KJOJ-FM That had to be one of the longest IDs I've encountered.

KHYS Pt.Arthur-Houston and KJOJ-FM Lake Jackson-Houston. Smooth FM, Ninety-eight point five and one-oh-three point three.

Thanks David, I knew you would have an answer.

KJOJ-FM is licensed to Freeport.....I dont remember 103.3 being licensed to Lake Jackson..
And Houston really didnt need to be added....just a quick "KHYS PortArthur and KJOJ-FM Freeport"
Which is how Liberman IDs them on Laraza....

However, those were the IDs when I was there in 1996-1997. I read them that way every hour, as ordered.

Hi Chuck & CW,

There is a microwave antenna off Flag Lake Drive in Lake Jackson that once was affiliated with KZFX and I thought it was still a part of KHTC. I was driving by there today and did see KJOJ calls on the side of the building, not sure if this was a carryover from the days of KGLF (whose studios were in Clute) but maybe this is where the Lake Jackson comes from for KJOJ.

103.3 had studios in Lake Jackson; possibly the old 107.5 studios...but it was not licensed to Lake Jackson...107.5 IS !
If the TOH ID was saying Lake Jackson, then it was an illegal ID and in violation of Part 73 for a good while.

Hi CW,

No argument on 103.3 being licensed in Freeport, just thought I'd pass on to you and Chuck the info about the building since y'all are pretty much up on the history of the stations. On the studios for KGLF, they were in the Clyde Cone Building off Highway 332 in Clute, about 1/2 mile from the LJ City limits. As far as I know they were there the whole time KGLF was in operation in down here. Not sure where they moved the studios when they were bought out and flipped to christian programming.

"If the TOH ID was saying Lake Jackson, then it was an illegal ID and in violation of Part 73 for a good while." Well CW, it wasn't an 'if.' It was a fact. At the time, KJOJ-FM was owned by Clear Channel. The statute of limitations ran out a long time ago. Of course, now, it's a non-issue.

Hey Chuck,

I don't mean to disagree, and I went back through some airchecks (one of which is on my website at http://www.colonelstjames.com/colresm.htm), but the TOH was indeed like you said, but it was "KJOJ Freeport - Houston". Oh and we're not Old...just well seasoned. And personally I'd rather listen to Ramsey Lewis over Brian McKnight, but who the heck is up at that hour!! Hope to talk to you soon.

CW, I owe you an apology. Your original assessment is correct. Colonel, I went and did the same thing when i finally got home this afternoon. You are absolutely right. It was ten years ago and we were there a very short time. Looks like I'm more seasoned than I thought.

Incidentally CW, your moniker came up today in a conversation about 1050AM and 1090AM. What do you figure those two stations are worth? You mentioned a couple a years ago, those two frequencies are in the way of a 1070 upgrade, in addition to KOPY in Alice. According to Radio-Locator, 1090 is silent. I tried to tune them in this afternoon as I live on the west side of town. I couldn't get them, however that doesn't mean anytrhing.
