So, what's the deal with the fall book?

Days after the release date, and the release of the Rochester 12+ numbers, there's still no word on Buffalo's fall book. What's the deal?

It doesn't say "embargoed" like some other markets. Is there a serious anomaly that Arbitron is looking into? Something that doesn't make sense - like some hot A/C station that suddenly doubled its numbers, maybe?

Rox, I thought I read on All Access that the Buffalo Arbitron had been embargoed.
Then again, I could have been dreaming!

Who's not paying?

Let's see, Star and WGR "alledgedly, reportedly, supposedly" had strong books. There's Entercom.

WYRK and WBLK "alledgedly, reportedly, supposedly," had great books. There's CBS.

WHTT and 97 Rock "according to knowledgeable sources" had good books. There's Citadel.

So who's not paying? WJJL? Pffft. Damn! They always gum up the works!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the big three conspired to keep the numbers out of public access, such as Radio & Records and All Access for two reasons: (1) To keep some small-time players from accessing the numbers (let's see, that would be WXRL, WLVL, WSPQ, WJJL, WLOF.) As if any of those stations had numbers to sell in the first place. (2) To prohibit pigeons like us from blathering on about who's up and down.

Neither reason holds water.

Could it be that an operator like Crawford (WDCX) was accessing the numbers? Sounds even less plausable.

Orrrrr, it could be an attempt by the big three to ferret out a mole or two who've previously posted numbers on this board. I've talked to insiders at two of the three Buffalo clusters. Neither was forthcoming about the numbers; although they discussed "who's up and down," they wouldn't disclosed actual figures 12+ or 25-54.

So, maybe something is afoot. Anybody heard from Jay Surly recently?

Rumor has it that the Arbitron Police have him in custody, and they're sweating him for his contacts...

LOL. One can only picture "Surly the book salesman," in Gitmo, being water-boarded by darkcoats from CBS home office, attempting to break him down for his Rochester contact(s). "C'mon you lousy Ukie... tell us who gave you those Buffalo 12+ numbers."

Yeah, "water-boarding," real funny stuff, 9.. kinda like those black zones, eh?

I talked to a guy I worked with about five years ago, he's now with Infinity-CBS. Says he knows nothing. Did a complete Sargent Schultz on me. Something's very fishy. Guys who normally know what's going on saying, "uh, I haven't seen anything yet, but they tell me it's pretty good for us..."

As that right wing nippletwit Drudge so often writes, "Developing."

I am told an embargo prevents a public release of Arbitron rating information.
This is done by Arbitron and not radio companies.

Media definition: To delay use of a news item until date and time specified.

In years past, the threat of an embargo has been used when negotiating ratings services w/radio companies, specifically Infinity/CBS Radio.

I could be wrong, but I think if only one group (or no group) buys Arbitrends in a market, they are embargoed. Only stations that pay for the additional monthly reports and advances are supposed to see them. That could be the case here. Monthly Trends between books are almost always embargoed for Buffalo.

It could be that no one will see/release the numbers until the "official" book, which IIRC is a week or so after the 'Trends. Anybody else wanna chime in on this?
