So When did Movin' Become the New Mega? Yuck

What a waste of time. I heard this trash for the first time today. Reminded me of the old Mega 100. We all know how that went. History repeating itself again. Mostly R&B, Funk and Disco. The Same old worn out tunes. Theres no more Real Workout mix anymore. Just Disco. I always thought they should model themselves more like the Old KTU (1996-2006) with Dance Currents,R&B,Popular Hip hop tunes and old school. Aren't people TIRED of the same music all the time by now?????!!! Geez, get an ipod and you can hear the same ones over and over if you want. Its not like "Tera Bonilla" is providing exciting entertainment with these worn out tunes!

It happened after that hack Ricki became the APD. Didn't he program Mega? The station was actually starting to sound good and then boom!!!!
Horrible!!!! I love hearing Shelia E three times a day. No content...just shout outs. BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the PD. There's a new sheriff in town and he's making his presence felt throughout the LA CC Cluster.
Clue: He's higher up the food chain than the PD.

I'm confused...Movin' isnt' part of CC.

I agree with the others. After they got rid of the boring 90s songs it was sounding good for a few weeks but it's back to the boring again with this 70s 80s mix that moves crap.

Good lord your right! I'll NEVER use NyQuill again!!! I saw the "Mega" in the post and for some reason thought "Hot 92". Guess I was a little too woozy.
One little thing... Or as Maxwell Smart would say, "missed it by that much"... Time for bed...

Ricki needs to take his lil worn out old school tunes somewhere else.

Havent you heard, "jammin' oldies" was so 1999. Get a clue!

This APD guy Ricki has no idea what he is doing. I can't believe Rick Cummings and Jimmy Steal hired somebody who'is so clueless and has no idea what he is doing.

Movin had so much potential until they let this new APD come in and turn the station into a disaster overnight.

I tried to get in at the station andthey did not want to hire me because they were annoyed with my persistence.

Even though I have not programmed a radio station I know that if I ever did get a chance to program a station like Movin. I would make the station a success.

I have been in the industry for 16 years spinning on stations like Power 106, Groove 103.1 FM as well as all the major clubs thru out the years. So I would no excactly what type of music to play to boost the ratings. And trust me the way Movin is now programming the music. The station is headed towards failing.

No wonder DJ Enrie Quit. I don't blame him.

Who would want to be apart of this.

He's smart to have gotten out when he did.

I can't believe Rick Dees is putting up with the music that the station is now playing.

Dees is a big part of the failure of Movin. He's a demanding pro who has always had a lot of power but has lost sight of how to appeal to his audience. He doesn't know how to appeal to a 25 year old hispanic female. He's nearly 60 and lily white, how could he? Besides the small market players he has surrounded himself with, just seeing that promotional campaign shaking his butt is enough to know he's lost it. He could be the shining star in L.A. radio if he hadn't demanded so much from CBS for KRTH. He blew his own career & legacy. Don't feel sorry for him. The bigger question is how & when does Emmis get out of their deal with him. Dees is dragging Emmis stock down.

I have to disagree with you that Dees does not appeal to his Latina audience. On the contrary, I believe he still has great appeal to that audience. Mind you, these 25 year olds were little girls growing up listening to what their parents listened to (KIIS-FM) in the 80's and 90's and of course Rick Dees in The Morning. I haven't seen Dees' numbers and they might not be all that great today but I do believe he has more appeal than Ryan Seacrest does to that segment of the audience. Not to mention, his original listeners are probably tuning in as well. He has earned the right to be demanding...that's how he became successful. I can't pin the stations failure on Dees...my guess its the programming.

Rick Dees lost all his credibility with Latinos when he let Patty Lopez show he that he hasn't a clue of Latino culture or knowledge of Spanish language. So much for Richardo Diaz. That's Dees own fatal mistake.

You better look at those ratings. Dees has been back on the air a full year and had more free publicity and paid promotion than any other Los Angeles morning show. Nobody is listening except Rick's 7 original listeners from Kiis.

Ryan Seacrest follows the format to the letter and his show is hot with Latinos. Dees had a lot of influence on the way Kiis sounded and Movin sounds. He broke and breaks format routinely. Kiis started to take off after Dees was ousted. Although I doubt Movin would, it would not do any worse than it currently is doing without him and it would save Emmis millions.

Why Emmis thinks this last ditch effort of playing a heavy dose of burned out disco hits will work is beyond me. Wall St. wants Emmis to sell of a major cluster or stations. Movin would be the perfect station to sell so they go private. Then maybe some company that has a clue could finally put a format on that stick that could win.

Clue: You mean Michael Martin at Clear Channel.

Movin' is owned by Emmis. Jimmy Steal is overseeing programming from his chair at Power.

Jimmy Steal is a brilliant guy and I will tell you that he is great at reading the market research. If he is proceeding with Movin it's becasuse he sees something there.

Martin is at Clear Channel and I have it on good authority is responsible for the changes at STAR and KBIG. The KBIG move is well researched and brilliant. The format is a copy of what several HOT/AC stations are doing with great success. A HOT/AC in Seattle was the first to make this recurrent adult hit move with a variety of adult top 40, pop and Country. Others are following suit.

MOVIN is a dead format and research indicates the Mega approach with Dees makes complete sense. The group consultant knows what they are doing and rather than blow up a brand they are extending its life by adapting to market conditions. Good move. Well done. Rick Dees will find his audience in this adjusted format.

Research is what brought us the original Movin 93.9. It was quite right on wasn't it?

Los Angeles has three other FM's - Hot, V and Kjlh - playing a heavy dose of rhythmic oldies. Not one is setting L.A. on fire.

Mega was a failure. That won't change with the new Movin with the management they have including one who helped Mega fail.

Los Angeles doesn't care about Rick Dees. He was over years ago at Kiis. He's lost it. His show is totally out of focus for the audience the station is looking for and has been for over a year. Currently they're not promoting him or the format change so it has less than a 0 percent chance of going anywhere except the graveyard of failed formats.

Movin should either be more current or play the hits Rick Dees made at KHJ and Kiis during the late 70's thru 90's. Not just old disco or rhythmic hits but a true hot ac like Jhani Kaye's Kbig was just before Clear Channel took over.

That's what I don't understand. Why did Movin' change before they even knew what kind of inpact the change at KBIG would have on them. The could have potentally picked up some listeners, but instead they're competing now against stations that are dead in the ratings.

Uh, prehaps you're not aware of recent changes at 104.3?

As for Emmis, Radio One will buy them out, Radio One needs a Hip Hop station to sell with KRBV and KPWR is really the only decent option(no one's gonna buy a KRBV/KDAY package.)

Wall Street would never let Radio One spend $200 million or more to buy an L.A. station. As it is they've called for them to sell V100 which is an excellent idea.

104.3 my fm isn't remotely like Jhani Kaye's AMFM Kbig. Dees should have been surrounded at Movin with Kiis vets such as Paul Freeman and Big Ron and not cruise ship entertainers and other nobodys. Dees was telling a story last Thursday about Michael Jackson and the Pepsi commercial filming when his hair caught on fire. Patty Lopez asks Dees if he was hurt. Nothing like having a clueless co-host and trying to appeal to adults who lived during that era.

Great ratings at Movin today. Down 33 percent. Emmis doesn't have a clue.
