So, when it comes to LUBBOCK RADIO...

Gabba Gabba Hey!

How do you think the stations ended up doing? Did you hear anything you liked the last quarter of the year? Did you hear anything you would change? Now, please let it be known... I would like to try to not turn this into some sort of station bashing etc... There are allot of radio folks who use this site for different reasons.... so heres a great opportunity to voice your opinions.

Just want to say that I will always have mad love for Hot 97.3 and 104.9 The Beat, because I didn't have those stations to listen to when I lived there.

I visited Lubbock for the holidays from San Diego, and I found this...

-more diversity on the air with the addition of 105.3 Jack FM.
-Hot 97.3 seemed to be playing more mainstream hip-hop, and sounded good overall, but did have some random strange liners like 'we've been kickin' your a*$ for 2 years now'... then no station ID.
-north of Lubbock has a new classic rocker... 103.9 The Rocket, KRIA Plainview (formerly a spanish station)
-104.3 Stars FM sounded like a pretty solid AC station.
-FMX seemed like an alright rock station, but the imaging was bad... most every liner, the music drowned out the voice guy making it almost impossible to tell he was saying 'FMX'
-I liked KLLL's legal ID utilizing Texas... '96.3 KLLL Lubbock, Texas' It just sounded right.

Overall, it seemed like the radio dial on the South Plains was pretty good

Over-all I liked Mix this year. 98 Kool finally picking up some Allman Brothers and Beatles was great, now if they'll just play some Earth Wind and Fire. Getting really tired of Nashville country, and the Texas/Red dirt has been sort of boring too. The years high point, Maines Brothers playing the Lubbock Arts Festival to a sold out show. 1. 98KOOL 2.KLLL and KQBR. 3.FMX-MIX. take it with a grain of salt.

What exactly was it that MIX did that you liked?

I like MIX's playlist better than Z102. They play a lot of music that I grew up hearing. Z102 seems to play a lot more rap than MIX.

Also I just read that Mix 100 picked up the radio show Dawson McAllister Live Sunday nights from 9 pm to 2 am. A show where teens and young adults call in and he gives them advice. Its been on in Dallas for awhile on KHKS. It's actually a pretty interesting show.

MIX seems to have a solid direction when it comes to their list. You can't please everybody all the time. MIX does a good job keeping their focus in place.

Well, I have to say that I hear more ROCK then RAP on Z102. Plus, if there is more RAP then ROCK in the TOP 40... then obviously thats what you are going to hear and visa versa. But yes... Z plays more RAP then MIX does. As for being focused... I would have to say Z102. However, I don't listen to MIX much at all. There are a few reasons, but I get annoyed by stations that feel that they have to tell me that they will be back to music in 60 secs and/or that they get back to the music faster. To me that is just wasted air. But once again, these are just my opinons.

Here's something... is there more to KLLL then just being a heritage station, honestly? I am not much of a country radio fan at all. So, I was just curious? We all know people can act like SHEEP... so is this ultimately a matter of that happening with KLLL. Or is there actually depth to the station?
