So where is Jimmy?

Is Axel still saying "Mornings with Axel, Jimmy, & Leslie....Jimmy is out today"...? I haven't been listening.

Jimmy Barron Leaves Atlanta RadioCategory: LifeToday I read that Jimmy Baron has left or is leaving WNNX(99X). I have read that many are sad and many dismayed about this.I would like to put in my two cents.I have had some run-ins with Jimmy Baron in the past and none of them have worked out very well. Please let me explain. When I was the Leading Petty Officer of the Public Affairs Office onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and we were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. It was my job to set up different radio stations across the country with people from their hometowns. Being from Kennesaw I was especially stoked about hooking up people from my local area.A few of the Atlanta folks wanted me to hook us up with 99X so I did my thing and got in touch with them. After the interview Jimmy asks if we could send him some TR stuff and he would gladly send us some 99X stuff. So, me and six other guys bought TR ball caps and TR T Shirts and I think a TR coffee mug for the 99X guys paid for the postage and mailed it off to Jimmy. Two weeks later he told me he got it and said he would be sending us some 99x gear. We never received anything.About two months later through e-mail Jimmy told me about Bill Goldberg being very patriotic and wanting to speak with the TR guys so I rallied a few of us up and got them on the phone with Goldberg in what I thought turned out to be a great interview. After the interview I told Jimmy the Military's Morale Welfare and Recreation office was always looking for celebrities to come out. Jimmy said he would love to Bill about it if he could come too.I was quite surprised by this.I told Jimmy that the military wasnt going to pay Jimmy to come out. Outside of Atlanta who knows you? Jimmy was quite taken aback by this. He said but I am the person setting it all up. I told him to call MWR and give it a try. I never heard from Jimmy Baron again. Later, my brother Colin told me heard Jimmy Baron was asked by someone in an interview about what ever happened about him going to the Middle East with Goldberg. He quickly dodged the question. So, Jimmy is out of job. To this I say I am sorry for his misfortune but, in my personal dealings with him I have found him to be incredibly one way and selfish. I hope he enjoyed all the TR swag.

This from allaccess (point 2 make me think 99x is dead, what a shame)CUMULUS Exec. VP JOHN DICKEY told ALL ACCESS, "It's unfortunate that JIMMY chose to issue a press release that is factually incorrect. For the record, JIMMY BARON's contract expired APRIL 5th, and his agent GLENN GOLDSTEIN and I had agreed, in principal, to an offer that would give JIMMY the opportunity to match the economics of his contract as it had expired. The decision not to move forward with JIMMY had nothing to do with a dispute on salary. That's a fact that can be verified with GLENN GOLDSTEIN." DICKEY added, "The decision not to move forward with JIMMY was based on two factors: 1. The continual ratings decline in mornings over the last 18 months, 2. A thorough researching of the market and of JIMMY's role in the morning show by PARAGON RESEARCH."The Last Word On This?BARON's agent, GLENN GOLDSTEIN, contacted ALL ACCESS, and said, "I respectfully disagree with JOHN DICKEY's comments in today's ALLACCESS.COM regarding our negotiations for JIMMY BARON's renewal at 99X."

I am more apt to believe almost anybody's version of any situation over Cumulus'. The Dickeys have a horrendous reputation for their business practices and ethics. I have absolutely no doubt that they offered Baron pennies on the dollar as that is their M.O. in every one of their ventures when it comes to their employees. People at 680 The Fan, Jezebel, and any number of their other small market stations all tell similar stories of workers being asked to do three jobs at 1/2 the salary of one, mass firings, arrogant management, etc. As a note, I have never worked for the Dickeys nor competed against them. However, I have worked in Atlanta media for 15 years as a buyer. These guys are small time operators who have a wake up call coming now that they're in the big leagues.
