so where's the real urban music in SA?

...crammed away on an AM signal where you can barely pick it up in the SA area, at least in the northeast. Everyone keeps talking about hip hop/reaggeton...what about the urban (african-american) communities of San Antonio? Do we not fit the quota to have a true urban station on FM? Remember KSJL? That was my favorite station in the 90s. "But isn't the beat 'urban'?" Maybe, but it's owned by Univision, a latino company. This kinda upsets me that the black communities of San Antonio go unnoticed, especially on the radio. I hate todays rap music, it's dull, boring and repetitive. 6 year old kids with a beta version of a beat making program can make better music than those 2 note, one measure drum beat, five words total rap songs. We need real R&B (new and old school) and rap music (old and new school) who have more innovative creatitivity and SOULLLLLLL!!!! I dont' know...I'm just complaining that true urban music in san antonio is left in the dust of cleared forests of this city.

Do you realize that Black community is less than 7% in S.A.?

I like the music on the current incarnation of KSJL-AM. As you say, the signal is weak here on the north side and I find that it gets stomped by power line noise every few minutes as I drive around. :'(

Considering that it's a satellite-delivered format, I find it surprisingly listenable. I'd also enjoy it more on FM or a better stick, but that seems unlikely.

Well I agree with you, we really don't have a true urban station and we never will. Because of the 7% of the black community. It's not enough and also because non of the big companies will take the chance. I like the beat but I also agree with your comment about rap. It almost sounds all the same. I always look forward to flashback fridays. My friend DJ AK knows his old school. Nothing will ever beat old school rap. Now that was pure. Peace

Says who? Have you ever been to East San Antonio? I dont know where you got that number from but I KNOW it is inacurate. PLUS, look at all the black folks that got here (and are still here) thanks to hurricane katrina.

Arbitron estimates the black population in the San Antonio market at 6.1%. Don't know if they include the post-Katrina era or not, though.

A recent study shows that San Antonio increase it's population from 2000 to 2005 by a little over 100,000. Another estimated report says that nearly 10,000 Katrina victims have called San Antonio home. With the increase in population it's likely the black community might have reach 10%.
