So, who buys KYRK?

Don't count out a certain Mr. Benson in the entire radio ownership equation. Who really thinks that someone would want TV rights to their property and let out of control losers keep radio rights?

Trust me.

Plus it would fit in the target demo.. but would he flip it or would we keep Rock (albet local)

But more realistic, I'd see some of the regional chains may want to chomp on it like GAP would be my guess. It would put Gap (Delaware) in the New Orleans/Baton Rouge market and is still within their days drive of Dallas or so that they are trying to keep....

*** Before anyone gets on me, there are two GAPs .... GAP (Delaware LLC) owns the stations in Louisiana,Texas, and Oklahoma .. George Laughlin owns a GAP (Florida LLC) that owns KTIB Thibodaux and a CP for a station in West Texas, but don't think he'll have the capital on his own company to buy KYRK.

But smart thing would be to keep it locally produced.....

Another may be if Pittman actually ever buys a serious signal (most of his purchases are community signals),or Another one of the Dowdy family purchases (to put in line with 94.9 WPRF (Southeast Broadcasting) who do purchase strong sticks)

Figure, Sunburst (Houma) is a maybe as it would put them in NOLA but they already have a debt load from Guaranty.. Citadel and Entercom can't grow anymore, they are tapped out, and the other major clusters won't want a one horse by itself (and Guaranty has gotten out of everything outside of Baton Rouge) .....

So either a local or regional cluster may pick this one up.. Benson, Dowdy, and GAP I'd put on the short list IMO

Dowdy is a good choice but if they can't buy it, I would hope for Benson. In hopes he'd keep it LOCAL! I don't think that station has had anyone speak into its microphones since their attempt as Kiss FM (4th format switch).

But it was a good little station when it was Mix 104.1 and the guy from Houma owned it. The Nasty Man in the mornings, Candy Clutch middays, Jammer afternoons, and MC Scrappy nights. They were red hott with good processing and all. Then CC took over and drove everyone away and ran the station to the ground. What happened to those people anyway?? Jammer was at WABB-FM in Mobile Alabama last I heard. Is he still there?????

Don't know about the talent, but man's name you are thinking of is Raymond Saadi and he sold the station in January 1997 to Clear Channel.... 11 years later it's for sale again....

But I think you right with Annette Wade or the afternoon guy who didn't know where Prairieville was being the last two over the mikes.... I know it's all VTed with Houston mornings and Tampa Evenings if I remember

Ive always wondered, since they are 100% voice tracked, do they even have a studio in New Orleans at all, or is the station just basically a server in the IT rack? A few years ago i visited the studios of a not to be named Clear channel station in texas and asked "where's the 'studio' of Kxxx ?" The guy showing me the station opened the server closet and pointed to a dell server with the station call leters taped to it and some tiny audio board below it for controlling audio levels, EAS, ect .

Don't know about KYRK, but the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate actually had a picture in the paper of the computer 1210 (WSKR 1210 the score) was running off of at the time

1210 has a full (albeit small) studio. Sure that wasn't the now sold-off 1380 am?

To show you how long ago this was, Big D and Bubba were still in Baton Rouge at WYNK ... I'm guessing 2002/2003 sometime

I may be mistaken but either they didn't need a studio with 1210 running ESPN Sat feed except for one program 24/7 at the time was the reason I think it was like that...

hmmmm since 92.3 is going with some 80s format hey why not mr tom benson buy 104.1 flip it to all sports and be done with it whats the hold-up

Ok, Sportsnut, cool your jets and be patient. Benson is busy with the Saints and FOX-8, and these things take time. For what I have heard, Benson and sports is going to happen, a staff to man this station is very easy to obtain, and NFL rules required him to have a contract in place with a radio station. Trust me, Benson has an out clause with WWL, because even the state contract had an out, so there! ::)
