So who gets flooded out

I would think it would be fairly easy given this is a declared disaster area for WREC to get approval to run 5 KW ND 24 hours. Not that they have any live coverage at night, but just sayin’

It would...but they'd have to do so on a non-commercial basis. You can't operate with emergency facilities above your licensed power and run commercial programming at the same time.

Jeeze, my heart goes out to you guys. What a horrible weather year. Up here it's just been cold. We got six feet of snow in January, but that pales by comparison to your tornadoes, earthquakes and floods. What did you do to pi** off God, anyway?

How are the studios of WREG-TV doing? Aren't they right on the river bank?

So where is Hot 107? It is weak downtown and sounds good in Cordova. I have to say the audio sounds better than it ever has also. Did they di-plex into the Q stick?

Are there any bays still up on the tower at 6080?

Coming back to Memphis for several days Tuesday. Trying to prepare my mind for the flooding - it's on a scale I never saw in the 40 years I lived there. So sorry to hear about the troubles of the stations. I know several engineers who must be just about whupped with all the emergencies. Best of luck to all.

Here in NE PA we had on WREC for a while via their stream. Glass half-full : Arbitron lists them as the top news-talk station in the market. Glass half-empty : They're something like 13th in the market, and trail an AM Gospel station.

We heard WREC do their Fox news thing, then into what sounded like a too-quickly done traffic report, a brief weather, and then back to the Glenn Beck show -- with someone filling in.

And after winding up here on the Memphis board, we find out that their transmitter is not exactly going to operate like a bouy. More like an anchor.

I've never been in the area, but I still have to question how a 'news-talk' station at the sweet-spot of 600 on the dial (and the only one on the survey list doing the format to any notable extent) winds up that low in the book. Their recent numbers have shown a decline, too.

Now, 2011 radio in Memphis can't be expected to support their own KYW or WINS, but one has to wonder how even the sole supposed beacon on the dial is going to serve and profit through this potentially historic situation. The numbers show that there hasn't been much interest or reciprocal faith there in the first place.

but one has to wonder how even the sole supposed beacon on the dial is going to serve and profit through this potentially historic situation.

Well, WREC DID do a bang-up job in the '37 flood.

You save any airchecks of your coverage? (ducks and runs)

Anybody got a wire recorder that works?

Looks like Hot 107 is back at their TX now. 1030 was still off last time I checked and Radio Ambiente was on 1210.

That means Mark Skoda's mothership, WMPS The Point, can now only be heard on an analog television audio frequency.

Not that it matters, since The Point doesn't even show up in Arbitron's PPM.

When The Point launched, Dr. Flinn said of Skoda: "His passion and commitment inspired me to work with him."

I guess Skoda is not inspiring a lot of listeners.

Dr. Flinn is now apparently more inspired by a check from the Mexican folks.
