If i read this correctly http://www.theticket.com/Teams/Cowboys/tabid/460/Default.aspx cumulus media's contract with the cowboys offically ended and they are not trying to renew it, so who is going to get the cowboys next

But there's a world of differnce between KTCk and KRLD-FM right now. 1310 is still one of the top billers in the market, I bet the reason they got out of the deal is that they weren't willing to give Jerry what he wanted in terms of inventory, players shows, etc.MikeShannon914 said:Strange, I haven't seen the negatives posted here that were brought up when KLUV dropped the 'Pokes and Sucksquehanna picked them up...like major revenue disparities (cost to carry the games vs how much revenue the games ACTUALLY generate,) and Jerry's Influence over the talk show product, and also taking on the Cowboys Radio Network and the insane costs of uplinks, equipment and personnel. And does CBS really want to shell out $8 an hour to have a board op in place at BOTH stations on gameday? :![]()

Sorry, Dan, there HAS to be more to this story. I see Jerry having a problem signing even THREE years with a given station, considering the bust that the Sucksquehanna/Cumulus relationship has been. Jerry should simply buy his own station (1190?) and do it HIS way...HIS hosts, his message, his spin, and his ultimate control. Bless his little heart, that's all he asks for in life, right?

Where KRLD-FM is so far back in terms of both ratings and revenue that they can afford to give Jerry have the station inventory, as they can't sell it for decent rates themselves. Same with the player shows. My source inside 'the mothership' tells me those 7pm player shows are ratings killers. Only the hard-core most homer fans listen, and they can get better ratings with whatever else they run an night.
My theory is that KTCK decided they didn't 'need' the Cowboys (neither their ratings or their revenue has increased significantly over their pre-cowboys numbers) and they didn't need to cater to Jerry, while KRLD-FM is willing to acter to him, as the exposure is just a marketing budget under a different budget line. Instead of paying for a bunch of billboards or TV commercials, (both of which require cash) they give Jerry inventroy they can't sell for much right now, and get the in-game exposure, the cross-promotion exposure, etc
And BTW, I'm still hearing that TMS and nascar are the sticking point. They have a contract with CBS to run races, and they don't feel a need to take a backseat to the Cowboys. Now there may be $omething $ignificant to $hift their thinking, but right now they're in the drivers seat, so to speak....

His main focus right now is getting the new stadium finished in time for George Strait to sing his s**t kicker music. If he really wanted to buy a station, he could have easily bought one 3 years ago. Who says that the Cumulus/Cowboys deal was a bust? KRLD-FM maybe the logical choice, but don't count out a suprise guest. Going back to 1190 maybe good, but Jones wants the games on FM as well.

Oh my gosh... "Jones" an "wise" in the same paragraph!
Is it wise to build a new stadium in this economy? Is it wise to double / triple the season ticket prices in this economy?
Jones is not a wise man. He's a fool, and you know what they say about fools and their money.
salemjedi54 said:Yes he is wise. He turned 140 million into 1.4 billion. Did you do that in 20 years? So if you think he is a fool, then I want to be a fool just like him.
MikeShannon914 said:Jerry's "smartness" comes from being able to make OTHER people pay for his follies. Taxpayers, fans, vendors, corporate sponsors, etc. Yeah, some "shrewdness" in there, but it's not like everything he does is a 100% gamble off his personal wealth, or involves much risk.
ISaidSo said:Follies? You have to separate the discussion here.... He is a brilliant business man. Period. He took over a team that was losing money, bought them for $140 mill, and now they are worth more than a billion dollars. Fans, and sponsors choose to support the Cowboys, he doesn’t trick them. The team winning or losing has nothing to do with the business of what he does. Now you can question his GM skills. But only an idiot would question his business skills. Not to even mention all of the events that he is bring to DFW, (Super Bowl, Final Four, NBA All-star game, College football match-ups, major concerts, etc) do you think the taxpayer will benefits from that? Thought so! 8)
