So who gets the men now...

With JSE flipping, what station gets there auidence...and what station is the leader in the coveted 25-54 men?

ZXL
MGM
ESPN

Am I missing anyone?

Yeah, ESPN plays alternative rock, they'll get a third of WJSE's listeners.

You're missing Internet and satellite radio.

Last time I checked (which was 6 months to a year ago), WZXL was still playing stuff like The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and Billy Joel while calling themselves a "rock station". Not much about the station has changed on the surface since then. That, combined with the way they pitch their music up like a Top 40 station (I've noticed every Equity station does that, even 96.1 The Touch), probably won't be too appealing to the average displaced 'JSE listener.

The Shark is your reliable, dependable Classic Rock moldy oldies: your place to hear Stairway, Freebird, Sweet Home Alabama, The Who's CSI themes, and all the rest another million or so times if you weren't sick of them by now. 'JSE's ratings might have been weaker, but The Shark is the clear underachiever of the Atlantic cluster with its powerhouse signal and fair-to-middling ratings. One can only wonder what 'JSE could have done on a signal like this. Anyway, highly unlikely that they pick up many former 102.7 fans.

97.3 ESPN Radio will stand to pick up some of the alternative rockers who also happen to be sports fans.

But the vast majority of the audience will not be enthusiastic about any of the options out there. They'll probably do the same thing that most in the Monmouth/Ocean area did when G Rock flipped to Top 40 - move away from FM and go on to satellite, Internet radio, and their portable music devices.

As for myself when I travel South Jersey: I might tune into Wild 102.7 a little out of curiosity, and I actually enjoy the mix on The Touch (esp. the weekends, when they go retro and play a lot of classic hip-hop and new jack swing), but without a doubt I'll have to bring along my MP3 player and car adaptor.

Soul Crusher, I haven't heard Billy Joel on ZXL in years, if not more than a decade. What are you smoking? The Shark plays Billy Joel blocks. I think that's the wrong station you're thinking of with Billy Joel. Same with Fleetwood Mac. Maybe once in a blue moon, they'll play a FM song. And there are a couple of Eagles songs they occasionally play.

I'm not saying they're edgy, or taking an opposing position to your general premise, but pick examples of music they actually play.

My vote would be for ZXL. They play more modern rock, more songs by bands like Green Day and the Foo Fighters.

Regardless, The Shark sounds old and tired. That should have been the format to get blown up. It would have made more sense to reformat that station to have a more "modern" edge to it.

They should definitely get rid of that dude they have doing middays, LaRue. If you want a chick to be on a Rock station, you don't want her to sound like she has to tuck it between her legs to hide it while wearing a bikini.

I hope the rumors of them bringing Bob and Tom back are not true. That show is worse than whats on in the mornings now, and that is NOT saying much.

The biggest loser in all of this is the listener, as another station goes CHR in a market that is already overflowing with them.
