So who's the REAL News & Traffic Leader?

Interesting move by KIRO to best KOMO's traffic reports by sixty seconds ("first on the threes").

So it is just smart programming from KIRO or an admission that KOMO - despite what many say - is for real?

Is KOMO any better? Sheesh..

Word from the Eastlake gang is that their own internal research is showing that they've lost the news and traffic image BIG TIME!!! What other choice do they have??

Their own research also indicated Greggggg and Jane are losing to the KOMO team too.

HUH??? This logic assumes that everyone is getting in their car at the 10-minute mark and whoever has the race to deliver the traffic closest to that milestone will win? Not sure if I think like many other commuters ... but I remember who has which clock and when I want traffic I look at my car clock and figure who's up next to deliver a report. It's about convenience and that coin flip has, in my experience, favored both stations almost equally depending on the randomness of the time.

If ANYTHING...I'd fault the logic of moving an established "clock". For example, I would be assuming KIRO's delivering on "7"s and will now be p/o'd to find that I missed it already by four minutes.....

Probably has more to do with CBS Network News, as their first break is at :03.

Sounds like KIRO listeners can get their traffic at a specific time and will have to re-adjust their times with their iron lungs.

Don't think it's got anything to do with that

KOMO has to meet live ABC feeds at :00 and, at least used to be :02:30 for 90 seconds.
Traffic on the fours was a function of when they were hitting ABC live.

I'm sure it's no different at KIRO where they have live CBS status reports, and updates to hit during the hour as well.

I don't know what research you're seeing, but in the Summer Book Greg & Jane are Number 1 in morning drive. (12+)

And Dave Ross is Number 2 in afternoon drive. (KMPS is #1)

Considering that is Summer and the Mariners are on KOMO I don't know how you can call KIRO anything less than dominant.

(By the way, Allan Prell was #5 (12+) in his time slot.)

Also, really unsure why KIRO dumped Prell and is changing traffic around after a book like that.

Komo runs the ABC Information Cast at :00 and then go straight into news at the break at :02. Overnights and weekend they carry the 1minute network commercial, then another 1minute 25seconds or so of Network News, then into local news. They don't carry the last 30second spot or the 5 second anchor sign off, ever.

Not sure why KOMO picked the 4s - remember originally they did not do network news - it only appeared at the top of the hour during the Iraq War, when they picked up ABC's sixty second top of the hour cast that is fed at :00:30.

When KVI switched to Fox News, KOMO picked up the ABC Info Cast.

12+ = who cares. Nobody buys 12+.
25-54 G and J are as close to #1 as they are fond of eachother, not at all

The research I'm referring to is the same in house research that told them KOMO is dominant with the traffic image.

> KMPS PM Drive kicks ass

All heil the mighty FLO! I agree, Skippy. When I'm seeing the brakelights ahead I don't turn to KOMO OR KIRO... my first stop is KMPS in afternoon drive.

Funny thing is, nobody is a leader on the commute that matters to me and many other folks. Hiway 99/Aurora north of the Battery St tunnel is given short shrift time and again by any and all stations that claim to be the traffic leader and/or commuter's best friend. I can't be the only commuter frustrated by this egregious oversight given how voluminous the traffic is on a daily basis.

Thanks to Entercom. Makes one nostalgic for Bonneville, when KIRO was
the REAL powerhouse.

Do you work for Bastardcom? I for one do not work in radio, but I can
say this, KIRO sucks big time. I listened to KIRO growing up back in the '80's.
They were a great station. When they changed their on air staff in the '90's,
(which they did several times except for Bill Yeend )they lost some of their personality. When
Bastardcom took over they ran the still flying high ship into the ground.
(and they keep running it aground!) And don't get me started on their FM's.
