WBBQ had such a strong hold on this market (as ron said in earlier post) for many years playing a HUGE variety of songs including TOP-40 (hey Augusta.....heard any new hits lately....thought not) The station today is still holding strong but, with the loss of a pop music format and Y-105. Can't WBBQ at least benefit from this by playing a little more up to date music, a little more often? Someone over there in programming needs to realize that playing what you already play AND AT THE SAME TIME picking up the slack for the POP-teens in this big town of ours could.....actually, SHOULD increse your listeners. PLUS....PLUS, That ENORMOUS variety is what WBBQ has been known for all these years, am I right?
I...AM...NO...EXPERT...PLEASE, I WILL CERTAINLY ADMIT THAT BUT I'M A MUSIC FREAK AND WHAT'S HAPPENED TO POP CULTURE IN AUGUSTA IS JUST PATHETIC, BEYOND BELIEF!!
I grew up with WBBQ in the 80's and 90's and these guys had no problem with variety, lemme tell ya! In 1991 I remember listening to the Q go from like JANET JACKSON and DEPECHE MODE straight into EAGLES' "Take It Easy"......I mean you get my drift.....
Here in 2005 I STILL think the INFAMOUS WBBQ can keep on pumpin' out the JOURNEY, JAMES TAYLOR......love the occasional 70's DISCO cuts, too BUT......BUT.....
For the folks who are RIGHT NOW (MORE THAN EVER), lacking the POP tunes,
WHY...OH...WHY...WOULD...IT...BE...SO...HORRIBLE to throw into your mix songs these VERY AC-friendly examples:
HOOBASTANK The Reason
TRAIN Get To Me
KELLY CLARKSON Behind These Hazel Eyes
ALANIS MORRISETTE Everthing
GWEN STEFANI Cool
BACKSTREET BOYS Incomplete
ROB THOMAS This Is How A Heart Breaks
COLDPLAY Clocks
PINK Don't Let Me get Me
MARIAH CAREY We Belong Together
I could go on but, I've gone on long enough AUGUSTA may lost a lot of access to new and breakout pop music that we had for so long but we shouldn't be totally in the dark.
*THERE ARE MORE THAN BABYBOOMERS LISTENING OUT THERE*
