Uh yeah, hrmph... er....uh... I was just doing what the "old lady"...er... uh... told me to do. Yeah, that's it. ::)

The e-mails are starting to arrive...

"When will you start Christmas music this year?"

Can we get through Halloween and Thanksgiving first?

I hear Town East Mall is going to open the doors at 1:00 AM on the first official shopping day...

XM has already started with their "Holly" channel, Sirius probably wont be that far behind.

Speaking of Town East, do they still have that ice cream bar place where they coat em in chocolate and nuts??

What was the name of it? Was it in the food court area on the third floor?

It was *somebody's* Old-Fashioned Ice Cream (Bob's?) I'll have to pull out my partial copy of 1978's "Cotton Candy" (filmed at Town East and other locales) to find out the full name of the place. Still there? I dunno...I doubt it. It'd take a LOT of ice cream and nuts to pay mall rent these days!

No such store listed on the latest store directory. It's probably long gone. Since the latest mall remodel project, stores have been closing left and right. GGP must be increasing the lease fees three fold, or something.

Town East Mall used to be pretty cool, wasnt cotton candy the film w/ Kimo The Clown??, I heard an interesting story about him from my uncle, who used to be neighbors with the guy.....

Apperantly he was some kids clown here in the 60s-70s...Also had quite the "swinging" lifestye if you catch my drift...

"Cotton Candy" was Ron Howard's directoral debut. The movie was filmed in the early summer of 1977 and was a made-for-TV movie shown in 1978. Basically, it was a tame high school movie about a group of students who formed a band called "Cotton Candy" and were always trumped by another band made up of more popular students. The Town East component was a "Battle of the Bands" at the old center court where about a thousand locals showed up to form the crowd scenes (KVIL was the studio's local radio partner, and you can see KVIL's banners displayed all over the mall in the movie...I'm sure they put out the word for folks to show up on whatever day if they wanted to 'be a star'!) Other scenes were done at Lake Highlands High School, inside and at the stadium behind the school.

I'm playing with fire here, questioning the ultimate documentor and historian (Mr. Shannon), but I thought Grand Theft Auto was Howard's directorial debut for features.

And can someone tell me if they REALLY shot parts of Logan's Run in the basement of the building across from the Harwood Building downtown?

Good question, and in the RARE chance that I'm ever wrong, PLEASE feel free to correct me! Seriously, tho, I don't mind it a bit...that's how I learn and expand my knowledge! All I remember about Grand Theft Auto was that Ron starred in it...I'll have to check IMDB to see if he directed it as well. Wow, I remember seeing that one at the Bruton Terrace IV theater back around July, 1977. Nothing like seeing a classic Rolls Royce obliterated!

That's the first I've heard about that building used for Logan's Run. What part of the movie would they have filmed there? I've been able to account for nearly all the locations they used, but I wouldn't be surprised if I missed some. There's some info on the web as well that will help fill in some holes about Logan's Run...try Googling it. My original website had some photos of those location shots, but that's been offline since, oh, 1998?

"Cotton Candy "WAS Ron Howard's directorial debut BUT it was a made for TV movie for NBC starring his brother Clint. 'Grand Theft Auto" was his Motion Picture feature directorial debute for American International, followed by "Eat my Dust"
Cotton Candy also had Ron Chapman in a cameo role as "Ron Chapman"The KVIL banner was shown.

Sounds like I need to watch Cotton Candy. Any chance it has been released on DVD? ;D

Unfortunately, no. It used to pop up on local independent channels' 'Afternoon Movie' sometimes, but I haven't seen it televised since 1985 or so. There's always the Talking Heads' movie, "True Stories," that shows Big Town and Northpark prominently. The cool thing about "Cotton Candy" is that you can see how Town East USED to look before the 1986-87 renovation when the center court went bye-bye. There was talk fairly recently of tearing down the center food court and moving it elsewhere, and bringing back the old center court...but I never heard another thing about it.

My goodness, I haven't heard that! If they did do that, some stores would have to close or move.
