Here is the 6+ holiday numbers for Atlanta:
Nielsen Audio Ratings
There hasn’t been much discussion about the 6+ "no commercial value numbers" lately in the Atlanta tab. One thing I found kind of interesting was the Fish’s “soft” bounce playing secular Christmas songs. I don’t have the numbers from the last couple of years but IIRC didn’t they end up #1 or #2 during the Christmas book? Was it the Georgia Senate runoffs and or the general political turmoil that kept a lot of people out of the “Christmas Mood”? I noticed that Joy FM with their main signal mostly south of Atlanta (not counting the translators) and KLove combined were only .8 behind 104.7. in December and .7 in the Holiday book. Of course KLove is a “nonprofit” organization that happens to have a huge bank account. Joy is also non profit with an Tax number too so comparing a commercial operation to nonprofits could be misleading.
Cox had another good showing with 4 of the top 7 stations (6+) in the market. Would it be correct to say Cox gets the more billings of any other cluster in the market? It would be interesting to see the P+L statements from their operations. WSB might not be their most profitable station. They most likely have a large news gathering operation expense. I know they have access to channel 2’s stuff but the AJC is not a part of the empire anymore. They still have the helicopter for traffic. The three music stations WALR, WSRV, and WSB FM with their lower costs might be more profitable.
Frank Ski is now on Kiss it will be interesting to see what he can do.
