Software and Sound Card Issued

I hope someone here will have some suggestions:

I am working on setting up a comptuer spot bank for our radio station. I would like to use Jazler show cart replacement software (its free and works very well along with having nice features)... The soundcard we are using is the Lynx StudioOne. I have checked all the setting between the sound card and JazlerShow.

When I go to use Jazler show it will only play one audio file at a time, when I click to start a 2nd or 3rd, only the first will play, when the first is done and the 2nd or 3rd continue the audio will not even start from those, nothing at all plays. I have to use the stop all button and then start another. Why is it doing this, and what can I do to work around this problem.

Thanks for any help!
______________

Does the Lynx card your using support mulitple files/multiple outputs? Does this Jazzler program allow you to configure multiple audio cards per the various playdecks? Typically you assign output one of a card to deck 1, output 2 to deck 2 etc in automation software, I have never used Jazzler so I dont know if it can do the overlapping of audio.

I don't know why the Lynx won't play back more than one file. JazlerShow works fine on my personal computer with a standard soundblaster, more than one file can play at a time and can overlap. I used the DirectX feature in JazlerShow and now it does what I want, more than one file plays at a time and they overlap, problem solved!, NOT Quite :( with the DirectX the playback at times gets sluggish, I can't play it like this on the air.

Any ideas???
______________

Try reducing the buffer size and number of buffers. Of course, if you reduce it *too* much, it may cause glitches in your audio.

Also, I've found going between different file formats (mp3 to wav, to low bitrate mp3, back to wav, etc.) causes the audio not to overlap at times. If each of your cuts are the same bitrate and format, the overlap should work OK. .

Jazler's a good little program, for what it is. I like it. .

Thanks,

Matt

I played around with the buffer and number of buffers and it made some difference. Any suggestions for an "ideal" place to set them, or does it depend upon system? Overall most of the files are mp3, mainly 192 or 320kbps, several are wave files also.

Right now I am not concerned about anything else except the glitches in the audio, the rest works fine.

In addition I will mention the specs of the system I am running this on: Intel Pentium 4 processor (1.8GHz), 512MB memory, 20GB hard drive, Lynx StudioOne sound card, and a seperate 32MB video card. Windows XP Pro SP-2. It meets and exceeds the Jazler requirements. I am wondering would the amount of system resources available also affect the DirectX and the glitches in the audio. I am thinking of sticking windows 2000 on the computer since its less demanding than XP, would that make a difference?

Depends on your system. Obviously, the more RAM you have, the better off you'll be. 512mb should be sufficient.

If you wanted, you could make the priority of Jazler on the top of your resource list.

Also, disable any other sound driven apps, like Windows system sounds.

Swapping to W2K probably wouldn't make much difference, although I'd do it anyway for good measure (wink). I run the program on Windows 98SE, and aside from glitches between different bit rate files, the program runs perfectly. I am running the program through an Antex Studiocard, circa 1997, if that tells you anything ;)

I'd first get all your audio matched up in terms of bit rates and sample rates (if feasible). That make make the difference.

Thanks,

-M

I tried everything you suggested and nothing worked. It did run a little better on Win 2k but not good enough for broadcasting. :(

I took out the Lynx and put it back in its box, gonna save it for next school year for our new production comptuer we will get then. I put in another card I personally had (but never used) a high end consumer/low end professional card. It has a digital output, so hopefully the engineers will find that acceptable and it will work decent with our board, at least for the semester. Over the summer when our next budget year starts we can look for a better card, as I have money next year for that :)
