Software for editing DX recordings

I've been experimenting with recording DX using an old Sony PX440 portable recorder. What I'm looking for is some easy to use software to edit the recordings. Particularly, would like to be able to clip segments of a longer recording for posting here and keeping as an archive of ID's, etc. I'd also like to be able to manipulate the playback to try to clarify muddy audio. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance!

I use Audacity software for audio editing. Best of all it's free.

Audacity works OK. I've used it for regular sound recordings, and edited some DX MP2's as well. It will turn out MP2's instead of MP3's, because MP3's are apparently proprietary. But you can buy a plug-in. I just stick with MP2's.

Audacity is a great free tool for editing audio. I used to use it to make ring tones. It's definitely not professional software but it's free and easy to use. I highly recommend it for simple jobs.

I use Audacity for my editing too.

Audacity.

And its MP2 exporter.

To clarify, all patents on the MPEG-1 audio codecs and Dolby AC3 expired in 2017 so they're now effectively freeware/openware. (You should have seen the huge stink the whiners on Tapeheads made when the news broke... ) Of course that never stopped anybody before, but it's as compelling a reason as any to finally put Vorbis out of its misery.
