I heard comets that Sojo 104.9 is going to Spanish in February 14 is this true dose anybody now something about this. I think is a crazy idea if clear channel tried with a better signal and failed what makes them think that they will make'it on a smaller market mega 1310 and rumba 1480 are struggling,i imagine in jersey should be worst . if this is true I wish them luck.

What comet told you SoJo was going Spanish?

104.9 was Spanish -- before it flipped to SoJo. Get your money back from the mall psychic.

104.9 was WRDR that station got sold then mega took over and flipped it to spanish then in 2000 nassau took it over and it became smooth jazz then i think it got sold agian and flipped to country 104.9 then they debuted sojo 104

Also, I would like to note on the clear channel/better signal point. Rumba 104.5 was actually the #1 station in parts of the Leigh county, such as Reading, which has a far larger Hispanics population then Philly, and South Jersey. This doesn't mean much for sojo, but my point is a station with the same signal strength as sojo, the same miles away from Philly as sojo is, only west would if programed well do well with a hispanic format.

Infact I remember (after it came out that rumba was doing so great in Reading), posting something back in the rumba days of the sort, that CC would've been smart to just buy a station that reaches Philly like Frank fm, and put rumba on that, instead of using one of the market #6 stations (I think we were still market 6 then) to serve a group that only made up 5% of the population, and most of which was 2nd generation hispanics anyway.

Of course the reply for the rumba supporters back then was CC was building a station for the future. For when Philly is 20% hispanic, they will tune to the heritage station....,because we all know CC is about losing money now, so they can have the #1 station 10 years down the road.

- WRDR went Spanish as Mega WEMG-FM in May 1999
- WEMG-FM started to stunt in late March 2003 telling listeners to move to Mega 1310 AM
- WEMG-FM was sold to Nassau in May 2003 and for a few days simulcasted 97.5 WPST
- WEMG-FM in late May flipped to country as a stunt as "Country 104.9"
- WEMG-FM late August 2003 flipped to Smooth Jazz 104.9 WOJZ
- WOJZ was sold to Millennium in November 2004 and it flipped to Hot-AC as SoJo 104.9 WSJO

As far as Spainish coming to 104.9, I don't ever see that happening as long as Millennium owns the station.

SoJo is a hybrid Hot AC/CHR that sounds just like Mix 106.5 in Baltimore (minus the dance mixshows). It has a huge signal every day in the summer, from southern Delaware to anywhere south of 195 in NJ to eastern Long Island reliably, and as far west as Reading. I think it's the only 104.9 in NJ.

Just for the record, Reading is NOT in 'Leigh' County, or Lehigh County, it is in Berks County. That would be my only 'comet' here!

There is translator 104.9 W285EE out of Clinton, NJ......Before this translator signed on you were able to pick up a WSJO on the top of the hill on I-78 in Clinton (WSJO's tranmsitter is about 75 miles from Clinton).
