Rock N Roll Hall Of Famer Solomon Burke Died 10/10/10.....long time singer, composer, gained more fame from "Cry To Me" , than by his enourmous talent, when It was used in the movie "Dirty Dancing". Charted 28 POP hits and many R&B hits....one of my favorites is "Just Out Of Reach" his first chart recording. His music was covered by many, including the Rolling Stones, Wilson Pickett and many others. He was also known as the King of Rock N' Soul

General Norman Johnson died 10/13/10...he was a member of a couple of charting groups, If I recall correctly, and It was a while back, The monumnetal Drake/Chenault "History of Rock N' Roll"
syndicated show kicked off with The Showmen and "It Will Stand" of which General Johnson was a member, maybe lead vocalist. He was also with "The Chairmen Of The Board" and their big hit "Give me Just A Little More Time". General Johnson had a great voice with that little hitch in his voice...another great favorite of mine is "39-21-46" considered a beach music classic.

"Just out of reach" is one of my favorites. I have played it on my KDES FM Palm Springs show when we were oldies many times (KDES is now 70's & 80's). Now I play it on my daily afternoon show on our standards station KWXY am, also streamed. Our mid-day jock on KDES Bob O'Brien told me it was the first record he bought as a kid when it came out. Bob also does a saturday night doo-wop show on 950 am in Denver. That show is produced here in Palm Springs at our studios.

Methinks the kids on the R&B Board might not have a clue. I posted there within a very short time of Solomon Burke's passing.

No point trying to tell them who paved the road and made it easy for them to trample.

Sundays, Mondays, Happy days.

RIP Mr Cunningham......

Tom Bosley, before his fame in Happy Days, was in a favorite movie of mine "Love With The Proper Stranger"....Natalie Wood was with child, from Steve McQueen, and her brothers were trying to set her up with a very nervous Tom Bosley.

Happy days was based on American Graffitti and the great music of that era ....Tom Bosley was a big part of that show, is the only reason I bring It Up...Gonna Miss Mr "C".

Mr. C was also Father Dowling on Father Dowling Mysteries. Cute weekly.

Nice job. If I recall correctly Ozzie Nelson did not approve of Ricky's music "style".
