Somar Communications

I'm looking for some background on Somar Communications, sounds like there might be a history of management problems there. Even for radio, it sounds like there's a high turnover rate in talent at this company.

Roy Robertson called the instructor at the tech school I go to-- in Tacoma-- we have a broadcasting program there- looking for prospects for a new RF engineer. Supposedly, Robertson said to my instructor that he's looking to hire a regular person to work on his transmitters and remote equipment because he can't rely on contract engineers. If anyone has some experience with Robertson and this company, good or bad, it'd be cool to have some information to bring back to the instructors about this company.

What I know about SOMAR

- there was a big discussion in the area a few years back with their stations and St Marys County over backup generators for their transmitters. I believe SOMAR felt that somehow the local government should pay for a backup power supply to use during power outages

- They seem happy to do format changes on their stations. 97.7 has been oldies, alternative rock, mainstream rock, hot a/c, CHR, and now easy listening/nostalgia in just a few years.

- employees leave for a time, and then return

- when their first station started (98.3) it was live and local 24/7. Now, tune in to any of their stations outside of AM drive and it's all automated. Granted that is the case everywhere now.
