Some Changes at 103.3 WOLT

Davidson Media Group seems to be making some changes at the new oldies station 103.3 WOLT.

They're doing what they usually do with the stations they own - selling out large blocks of air time.

There are some oldies programs they are selling out - Bob Ross in the Mid-Day and "That 70's Show" from 5-6pm.

But now Bob Ross says there might be an Entertainment show on weekdays at Noon. They are also selling out time on the weekend for religious groups and other programs.

And tonight, I'm hearing some very strange music. They are calling it "Handlebar Radio"... I guess it has to do with the club in Greenville by the same name.

I know it's Davidson's business model to sell airtime, but I hope all the oldies won't eventually disappear.

Seems like they're trying to put a little bit of everything on there and are ruining it in the process. It wouldn't surprise me if they get rid of the oldies entirely (except for Bob Ross during the day, I guess).

CC should really put Oldies on 96.7...call it "COOL 96.7" and run things like they do with WCDG/Virginia Beach...they launched that station on an underperforming AC simulcast last year after Oldies 92.9/WFOG flipped. It's completely voicetracked I think but hey it's better than nothing. 'CDG's numbers seem to be OK, but it's hard to tell since they have a somewhat limited signal and it was previously a simulcast. http://www.cool921.com/main.html

They waited for a possible broker to come forward to do oldies, but it never happened. The need to show revenue is always there! I hear 2-5PM weekdays is still open. Maybe someone wanting to do oldies will step forward. Amazing to me how someone had the bucks to do the crap I hear at night...BUT no one came forward wanting to put it into the oldies, that they have been doing so well. ALL about $$$$$. Nothing else.

Unfortunately I am afraid that the almighty dollar rules most radio stations and they are more worried about ratings because they are mostly onwed by large companies like Entercom and Clear Channel and have forgotten what radio is supposed to be all about. I miss the day when most radio stations were owned by locally owned companies and uyou did not see much of the cloned garbage that seems to be going on today.

How long did that "Handlebar Radio" go on? What a waste of airtime! They must be desperate, but I guess as long as they get the LMA money they don't care what airs.

Oh, Entercom...WHY oh WHY didn't you leave 106.3 as it was!

I first heard it around 7:30pm last night... and it was still on after midnight.

I hope this isn't something they're going to be doing every night...

Well, I just tuned in and they're doing it again tonight. So now I guess we can only hope this is just Friday & Saturday and not every day.

They took 106.3 and something that makes no sense from the previous hybird format that took the fact that Christian and country music attracts a lot of the same audience and put some off the wall targeted talk format.

I bet if I has $$$ I could buy airtime and put hours of "F-A-R-T" sounds on and nobody would care as long as I give a Top of the hour ID and pay $$$!!! Flatulance radio.....sounds better than 106.3's "pull the string to listen" format!

I notice on Sunday night they still have cruizing Oldies sock hop show from 9pm-midnight and then oldies midnight-5am.

i just gotten an email back from wolt-fm and here is their reply

We broker(rent) the time on WOLT. It is a new concept, and recently an individual came forward wanting to buy the time between 6PM and 5AM. That is what you are hearing at night. We still have 2 to 5PM available, if you have an interest, or know someone wanting to do oldies in that time frame! Thank you. If so, here is your contact number: 866-888-8847. That number can be used for input or complaints too.

I wondered what in the world was going on there..... oh man, if I had some bucks and some spare time!!!

The other night I was driving home from work and caught this weird-funky version of "Once In A Lifetime." I was thinking it had gone all oldies, so it was very confusing.....

What's going on at WOLT now? I don't get to listen much but noticed Friday around 2:15 they were still doing the in-house Oldies format and a little before 5 yesterday afternoon still the same.

5am-10am - Awake With Drake
10am-2pm - Beach Bob Oldies Show
2pm-4:30pm - Oldies
4:30pm-5:00pm - British Invasion Show
5pm-6pm - That '70's Show
6pm-5am - Handle Bar Radio

 More like "Listen to Drake drone on and on show" YIKES! Every show is a resume!!! ???

I have it on good authority that Handlebar is gone and won’t be coming back to WOLT. ;D

If people really want to keep oldies on WOLT someone needs to step up and buy the time before they sell it to someone else.

GREAT! It's good to hear Oldies again at night on WOLT. If they'd keep Oldies on the line-up, I bet they'd get respectable ratings (they probably could care less though). But let's hope the oldies stay.

Probably LMA fees, just like Praize 103 had trouble with. If they did the in-house Oldies format 24/7, I wouldn't see them having any trouble getting an upper 3 share or maybe even a 4.

Bob Ross has moved or been moved to 1PM-5PM weekdays. I'm assuming they're doing Oldies from 10-1. That '70s show still comes on from 5-6PM. I thought that the 70s show was very good, at least what I heard last night - it blends in well with the rest of the station, sweepers and all. Even the ID at 5:00.
