Some changes to playlist at B98.5

Not that anyone cares, but at the latest attempts to at least boost their ratings as well as their first major change in their playlist in a long long time, B98.5 has changed, modified, and added several songs to their normal Monday thru Friday, 50 minute commercial free, #1 listen while you work playlist.

Some songs you're hearing now on B98.5 according to yes.com that you haven't heard from them before

Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love 5:24 P.M.
Beyonce - Halo 4:24 P.M.
Chic - Good Times 12:43 P.M.
Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody 1:35 P.M.
4 Non Blondes - What's Up? 1:56 P.M. - That song is played on a so-called AC station ????
Katy Perry - Hot N Cold 2:37 P.M. - This song has been around for quite some time for 3 years, not a current

There may be more they have added that was left out, but so far, these were some that were picked up. Peach 105.7 anyone?

Keep in mind that B98.5 is probably the only AC station to include Boston ("More Than A Feeling") and Nazareth ("Hair of the Dog", just kidding, it was "Love Hurts") in their playlist.

I think I heard "Tained Love" by Soft Cell on there this afternoon. It's always strange when
a station doesn't play a song when it first comes out, but it turns up as an oldie years later. :D

they are doing what b101.1 in philly is doing making the station sound younger

could b98.5 become

fresh 98.5 ?

@jabba: New York's "Lite-FM" has been known to play "More Than A Feeling" and I wouldn't be surprised if they were to spin "Love Hurts" at some point...

@gregg: Was it with or without the "Where Did Our Love Go" reprise? Don't you hate the "short" version of "Tainted Love" without that ending? It's worse than stations that play only part 1 of The Isley Brothers' "That Lady"...

@Mike: If any station in this market were to go "Fresh," it would probably be a CBS station - Dave, perhaps... though, those Falcons games wouldn't fit in well, at that point...

Star94 is running the Falcons.

Indeed.  I'm waiting for B98.5 to start playing the Violent Femmes on their all-80s weekends, considering how popular the VFs became with the alt-pop crowd several years after their first album.

Stranger still was when I was in Publix and they were playing "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones on the Muzak.  Keep in mind that the Ramones NEVER had a top-40 hit.

Lastly, Star 94 has the Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" in heavy rotation on their all-90s weekends, despite the fact that that song came out in 1988.  I guess we can thank "Benny & Joon" for that, although Star did play that song back in 1993 as a current.

They've added two recurrents this week they haven't had on their non-Delilah playlist before: Adam Lambert's "Whataya Want From Me" and Beyonce's "Halo."

Almost every station in the country played that song as a current in 1993 - that's when it charted (for the first time) on CHR, and went Top 5

B98 is definitely TWEAKING. They played CeCe Peniston's "Finally" this afternoon and that was
in the freezer just a couple months ago. I think they are trying to win back some listeners that
106.7 took away........but they seem to be doing it in baby steps......don't want to wake up the
rug hooking grandmaws who listen daily.

A couple years ago B98.5 was playing Higher by Creed and How You Remind Me by Nickelback - seems like they're just reverting to how they were back then (maybe more from the pop side though and less from the rock side?)

Quite a number of AC stations are playing "More Than A Feeling Now" now.

Someone mentioned how "Tainted Love" wasn't played on AC when it first came out. I'm finding that a lot of ACs are doing that now. For example, how many ACs would've touched "Livin' On A Prayer" or "Here I Go Again" back in the 80s? Little or none. I probably wouldn't surprised if ten years from now, "In the End" by Linkin Park is on AC. It also reflects how the format is evolving to fit the tastes of those who are aging into the format. AC is quickly becoming not your father's (or mother's) music.

Or Nirvana, for that matter! :D

Times change. That's why BM became MOR became AC. The future AC may have a AAAish flavor.

It's also why "golden oldies" formats are following nostalgia formats into history....and why most "oldies" stations now play 70s/80s (even if they don't dare call it "oldies"). 20-30 year old music is 20-30 year old music.

Frankly, I'm surprised that late 60s/early 70s classic rock still gets as much traction as it does. It's probably now the oldest music still prominent on the commercial part of the dial...even "oldies" stations are moving forward from that time period. You can find an odd "golden oldies" or "classic country" station or show, but those are becoming fewer and farther between.

And it may not be limited to the unplugged version of "All Apologies" either. lol!

Well of course. We (or many of us) are NOW the parents!

I wonder if "Find your love" by Drake will make it to AC? Or better yet, Beyonce "sweet dreams"? Keri Hilson "knock you down"? Or maybe Ke$ha and Cee-Lo Green.

Mix 98.7 in Jackson, MS plays "Forget You", so that piece of dreck has made its way to AC.

So are they still adding songs, or have they stopped?
It would be F**in perfect if they added more stuff, like Christina Perri and Lady Gaga...etc. I don't think "grenade" by Bruno Mars is asking for too much, either. I mean... It's not like I'm trying to encourage them to add some Travis Porter or anything like that.
