I was at Westfield Mall in Merrilville in NW Indiana and kept hearing a CHR fading in and out on 99.1. Any idea what that was?

I once heard WSMK which is located somewhere near Niles, Mi. near that part of Indiana. That was about a year
ago.

WSMK reaches Lake County Indiana every so often. I occasionally get WYXY from Savoy IL (near Danville, IL). But it's mostly WMYX & WSMK I get in NW Indiana. WSMK is an R&B station.

Re: Some DX on 99.1 Not Milwauki CHR MUSIC. WSMK..... not Urban no longer

WSMK switched from Urban to Top 40 a while back, sadly. It was mainly due to Power 95-7 taking over the local area. That's kinda sad actually. I was hoping for a great radio war in the South Bend-Michiana market.

WSMK went thru so many diffrent name changes, format tweaks, they always seemed to switch things up and never stay the same. Smokin 99, The Fox, 99 Point one WSMK... the last time I was out there, they were pop and I couldn't believe it. I miss the days when 99.1 and 106.3 were dueling it.

I have a Smokin 99 Bumper sticker, actually 2 of them, and one of them was signed by all the talent from around 90 or 91.

Is 95.7 actually doing well in South Bend with their signal? It would be surprising to be if it is doing well with their limited signal. 99.1 isn't much better signal wise. 99.1 covers the northern part of South Bend while 95.7 covers the southern part of South Bend. At least only 1 county is being rated for the South Bend market. But I'll have to listen to the station when it comes in next time around.

Evidentally, Power 95.7 in South Bend is going away in the next month or two...making way for WAOR to take over the frequency. A new talk station is slated to take over WAOR's current home at 95.3.
